Both things could be happening just like on a surface sluice . If you set out the sluice too straight it might start packing up ..creating maybe some kind of fluid bed effect. If you over feed.. it might start to pack up a bit but theres a sweet point in every sluice and i just believe in this kind of sluice instead of giving it a inch per foot angle forward ill tilt backwards Toward the nozzle
Now the riffle works since it create a vortex behind each one but there might be a better angle to make the riffles with knowing the angle you set your sluice in.
But anyway im finding most of my gold on the Rubber waffle mating like i explained before and is fly poop gold with some lil pickers.
