Spent about 5 hours shoveling gravel from the river on Friday. Got to try my new plastic matting and my 1/2" raised mesh on my sluice. Both worked quite well. My one inch pump was more then I needed for water flow. Below is a video of the dig.

which worked best for you?
Well, both worked well. They both held the gold. The plastic mat is very quick to remove from sluice and remove the black sands. The 1/2" mesh takes a little more work to remove the black sands. I have more confidence with the 1/2 inch mesh over the indoor/outdoor carpet, as it has a better place to hide the gold and hang on to it.

So, I will probably use the plastic matting for quick hunts after work, and the 1/2" mesh over carpet for hunts lasting a lot longer. Sometimes, "Time" is of the essence.
