Question about bilge pump for recirc unit.

The particular 12v bilge pump that I am considering buying has this note for installation: "In order for this pump to operate, it must be wired to a float switch or a water sensing switch." Can I assume that instruction is for it's normal usage in a boat bilge area and for my usage I can actually just connect it's attached wire leads via alligator clips to a 12v battery? It further states to use a 10 amp fuse. Is there some type of power surge that can affect the pump or my battery when connecting or disconnecting it directly to a battery? I have a toggle switch that I can wire in for on off operation.

If it can't be grown, it must be mined!

No need for a float switch.

Thanks, that is what I thought since I use a smaller one as I described above with no problems.

The only thing a float switch would be good for is shutting off the pump if the water gets too low in the recirc system.
