First Prospecting Trip On The North Saskatchewan River Today, March 23, 2020. Took my rocker......dug gravel for about an hour, then the winds picked up and the clouds weren't looking very friendly. So, I headed home. Here's a video from today's hunt.

IMG_0486.JPG Here's my mini rocker, I use fixed riffles, no carpet in the bottom with a canvas apron with a sag old school style, the plugs on the side are for washing out individual riffles for testing, thinking of glueing them shut as I'm done with that experiment.

Nice! It's fun using a rocker too! Looks like you have put on a few hours on yours.

Can't watch it on here, I don't see why it's even here. Why not just post pictures?

So, what about a rocker? I know the old timers used them. Any advantage over panning or sluicing or just a different way to accomplish the same thing. Wonder if I want to build one. I like building my own.

The real only advantage, other then the fun of using one, is the ability to get gold where perhaps you don't want to lug in your hoses, pump, pails etc. Using a rocker is kind of like speed panning. You can move more volume of gravel with a rocker then just panning, and it's a little easier on the back.

Thanks John, I appreciate the info.

In use I have found the rocker box is closer related to a gold pan than a sluice box, you put dirt n water in there and you shake it, seems like a pan to me I wonder if that argument would work on a ranger in a hands and pans location like on the South Yuba. They work well in places with little water, you can get away with running pretty muddy water that would gum up a normal recirc system. As John said they are also fun to operate, you feel like you're in another place sloshing water and rocking the box.

Hi John, I finally got to see your vid. Your post said "Out with my rocker today". I thought I would see it in action, not on your deck. When are you going to take it out So we can see it working?
