GGs $65 Wastebasket Drywasher (updated)

Hi gang,

Loving northern Nevada!

Went to the GPAA claim in Washoe County located near Pyramid Lake on the Paiute Reservation. First I contacted the President of the Northern Nevada GPAA chapter for the scoop on the property. According to him it contains some beautiful wire gold specimens, problem is, they are rare and hard to find and all I found for my trouble were several 22 cal shell casings. (photos of the beautifully mineralized mountain to come later)

So on to scout out some mining property near the Virginia City/Comstock Lode area. Contacted a local realtor and located a couple of potentials
Heading out tomorrow to get some boots on the ground high up in the mountains that spilled over into Nevada from California to see a 40 acre patented Lode/Placer gold claim near the mining ghost town of Como.

The area around Virginia City has some breathtaking views!!! I cant wait to find some mining property to build my dream "A" frame onto with a view of the valley and surrounding mountains, there already are some beautiful homes up there that had to cost way more than I could ever afford but a guy can dream cant he.
Gasoline is cheap there and so are groceries, even property taxes in Lyon county are some of the lowest in the state but best of all there is no state income tax
and sales tax is only 7% just like Indiana. I really feel at home here and will be most happy to make this area my retirement paradise. Close to Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno makes this area completely boredom free!!!

Sorry this last installment has taken so long....... I'm back home in Indiana now, 6,000+ miles later
Had a great time exploring, camping, and prospecting out west, it was a fun adventure that will leave lasting memories!

One thing for sure, an extra long wheelbase chevy express van is not the vehicle of choice to take on dirt roads, especially ones that climb mountains to over 7,000 feet!
Had a really tense ride to check out some mining property located near the end of a one lane death road that would test the limits of a 4 wheel drive Jeep and the nerves of a samurai warrior.

Needless to say I chickened out before getting to my destination and was praying for a spot large enough to turn my van around to head back down the mountain. At the next switchback my prayers were answered and I was so relieved you wouldn't believe. Little did I know that the trip back down the treacherous road would be way more difficult than the trip up.

1st gear was not low enough for the steep grade and when I would put on the brakes the van would slide in a straight line no matter which way the wheels were turned, pretty scarry when you're just a foot or two from going over a cliff!!! Each mile of road downhill was taking me about an hour because I kept stopping to cool the brakes down out of worry they would get too hot and fail completely. (note to self: never try that again with a van)

I should have photos posted by sometime tomorrow or the next day......

Too much weight in that big ole van and on those steep grades for sure GG. Looked at the photo and sight you sent me. Will talk back tomorrow off line. Glad you got to make one of those trips of a lifetime. Later.

The drywasher worked fine except for having to dry the material before running it. Brought the concentrates home in a bag to run and only found a few small flakes but not bad for only running a few buckets of material.

Went out with my GMT afterwards but only found trash and bullets. Still had fun though.

Next post will show the GPAA claim at Quartzsite AZ and the small Nugget I found there with the GMT

looks nice over there . Haven't need out there for some time now . Ever dry washed around bis bee Arizona ? Thinking of a vacation trip for a few days that way .

It was real nice at Gold Basin. Needed my 4-wheel drive to get to the more remote parts of the claim though, where I was it had been hammered pretty hard so pretty slim pickins close to camp.

Never been to Bisbee Az but I hear the area is a great place to prospect

we took a week and went from the most northern part of hwy 49 camping all the way down and then cut through hwy 108 do to the fires at the time . But did not find one pice of gold our selves . But was a very fun trip .

Our visit to the mining towns of Sutter Creek, Jackson, and Pine Grove along with our stay at Roaring Camp was definitely a highlight in our trip but nothing compares to the fun I had at my friends 50+ acre patented lode/placer claim located high in the Sierra Nevadas near Railroad flats. Boy talk about rugged the entire claim was located between two nearly vertical mountainsides with the Mokelumne river running through the middle of it.

There must have been 5 or more adits leading to hundreds of feet of tunnels some of which I could see visible gold mixed with pyrite imbedded in quartz veins.

Here is the photo of the 3.2 gram nugget that I found while metal detecting along the bank of the river......
I donated it back to the claim owner due to a remark I had made while trying to be polite. He gladly took me up on my halfhearted generosity. (note to self: doh!)










Although as a consolation I did get to take home a small picker found on the claim .......



After the motherlode visit it was on to Lake Tahoe, Reno, Carson City, and the Virginia City/Comestock Lode area in Nevada to look for my own patented gold mining claim.
While in Nevada we also visited the mining towns of Tonopah and Goldfield.

Goldfield and Tonopah...two of my favorite places in Nevada, as they've both
been jumping off points for many backcountry runs.

heading to silver peak Monday morning to assemble a schovel at the mine . For work .
Haven't seen any gold up there yet or any where a round it .

I do get to travel to a lot of gold and silver mines in my line of work but can't poke a round to much .
Always looking for places to go back to though.

While driving south on 95 from goldfield to Las Vegas I saw on the left about 90 miles north of Vegas a highly mineralized mountain with vertical faults/contact zones. looked like a great place to prospect, I had to stop and get a photo.........

i go by there a lot going to tonapha and silver peak . Always wanted to stop but with my service truck unable to .

Did the gold come from there? Or some wear els ? That area is by Beatty .

got back last Monday and yes it is a old marble mine they determined to be pour marble from the history I found . But I still would enjoy checking it out up in the hills . I have been to the runes just off the road .

we went to the GPAA claim in Arizona at the lucky Linda claim . Though she may have been lucky in one way or another we weren't so lucky . July heat sun burn flat tire on ATV and no gold .
But all in all still had fun .
