In iron infested sites, yes. Especially along chain link fences and steel reinforced concrete walls. If I'm looking for small gold or platinum I would use the Nox over the Etrac too. I find the Nox is a bit more stable in wet salt water sand also, not that the Etrac won't work, it's just a bit less chatty with the Nox.

If you do go with the EQ you might want to go with the 800 if at all possible. It's worth the extra $ with the wireless and all the tone options/adjustability.
