My second evening hunt at this Chicago Park proved to be the best. When I found this copper coin it was totally unidentifiable. I cleaned it for 3 days, but couldn't get anything. Finally today I did electrolysis and was pleasantly surprised by the date. It was a 1857 4 pfennig coin that I dug at about 11" or 12" with the Equinox 800 in about 20 degree weather (which IMO there was a little bit of performance loss that i could tell in the cold temps). This Park still holds some nice old coins.

after about 15mins of electrolysis at 6V

after about 45mins more of electrolysis at 6V

The coin is ruined but I had to know what it was.

IMO, it's better now than when you first dug it! :icon_thumright:

That’s a nice oldie, congrats.

I’ve had items that I couldn’t identify until I shocked them. Oh well.

very nice, I think part of it is stopping sooner than later. I over did a coin and it quickly degraded badly. I guess the process keeps going somewhat, even after I put olive oil on it hoping to stop it. You make very good use of your trips, a whole lot better than being stuck inside

Nice dig! It's one of those you can look back on and know exactly where and when you dug it! Well at least I would.
