Temoorary drop outs or did it just shut off? The WM08 can drop out if you have it attached or stuffed in a pocket opposite of the side you swing your detector. It is also subject to interference from cell phones. ML suggests in the manual that you keep it stowed on the same side of your body as you are swinging the detector to give it a better line of sight to the control head transmitter as your body can easily block the signal. Doubt it had anything to do with the target, but if it was because the signal was initially loud, then the other possibility was the battery was getting low as ripvanb suggested which would also exacerbate the dropout problem I described.
