Day 4

Day 4. Again from the front yard. Trash stuff on the right. A golden elephant (inscribed with "Thailand"). A ring with a heart shape on the front and inscribed with "Sterling" on the inside (Sterling Silver?). A tiny buckle.

Well, I think it's more I'm just digging everything up, and being patient. I'm still learning the detector. I find I'm listening more to the tones than trying to interpret the VID numbers. I do have it in 3 tone mode, which helps keep the chatter down.

After you dig a nail recheck the plug and hole before moving on . I have found many good targets with five or six nails mixed in . If you have a pin pointer check the plug and hole with it also . You could have moved the good item from the original position the detector found it in . Remove all metal before moving on .The nox separates really well . Set a coin and nail side by side and play with how much of the nail covering the coin can still be heard and from what angels . It only gets better with time . I am still waiting to dig . Melt already .

Day 6

More finds from my front yard. Highlights are another ring and 8 coins (2 quarters, 1 dime, 5 pennies). Frankly, I'm surprised I'm finding so much stuff in the front yard since it isn't that big.

Day 7

My finds today from the front and back yard. 2 more rings and a personal best 14 coins (2 dimes, 2 nickels, 10 pennies).

Also, I found something buried about 6 inches deep, which was too embedded in the ground to pull out. Anyone know what it could be?

Check out all paths near house, front, back sides. Along street is often best since where most people walk. Ck near by school yards and parks. Older is even better. Love the hobby.

Looks like a grounding stake to me.

Yes, it's a grounding stake. It's only about a foot away from a telephone pole. I can't tell without further digging if it is connected, but I'm just going to leave it be. I've already buried it back up.

Day 8

This is today's finds from the backyard. My first car! Only two pennies. I think the "cross" is a faucet handle.

Detecting in the backyard away from the house. Mostly junk. Only thing of interest is the chain and coin.

Day 10

I took a couple of day off from detecting. I found a lot of stuff in the backyard, but mostly junk including foil and two tubes. I did find a large circular object and some kind of Bach token. Also, in the very back of the yard was the end of a 6-inch metal pipe. The photo shows the Garret carrot at its mouth.
