Apologizing in advance if this been asked before. I'll be scrolling thru the posts as the night goes on but, I'm new to metal detecting and been watching lost of YouTube videos, although not necessarily the instructional ones, the treasure finding ones are much fun, LOL!

I live in Central Florida and am planning to hit the beaches on the east side of the state tomorrow, just to learn the detector.

Are the factory defaults for "Beach" good enough?

Are there any other settings you would recommend I take care of, before I set off detecting?

Thanks for any and all replies!:wave:

I may not be the best person to address this question, but I will try.

I am also new to this hobby and have mainly been using my 800 at the beach on the Florida panhandle (when it worked).

What I was told to use is the following:

Use Beach 1 for sand and slightly wet sand. Beach 2 for in the water and the surf.

Noise Cancel for me is usually between -4 and 0, and this seems to work well.

Ground Balance is 0

I usually adjust the volume up to 25

Depending on where I am I sometimes reduce the sensitivity down to about 18.

Other wise, for just starting and learning these settings should work fine for you.

Just for the fun of it, I leave the Iron Discrimination turned on. This way I find toy cars and tent stakes etc. and they will come in with a -5 to -6

The attached image is what I found in April using these settings.

I found that a quarter will give you a solid 29-30 signal

A dime will be in the low 20's

Pennies will be in the 17 -19 range

Bottle caps and trash are in the 11 -14 range

Found a gold ring that came in the 8-9 range

Good luck and have fun

Yes, that factory beach settings are good enough. In Florida, you dont have to worry about minerals, so the the GB at 0. Do an auto noise cancel, then adjust sensitivity until its only a "little" erratic. Then dig every repeating target.

Those settings work great at the beach...I hunt the same area you plan to hunt (Daytona, NSB, Cocoa)...I pretty much dig everything that repeats on the beach...do not eliminate the 11-14 range and write it off as trash, I have found several rings in that range...but if you want to leave that range in the sand, I’ll be glad to dig up those targets for you...happy hunting
