I was out with a buddy at an early 1800’s homesite now a farmer’s field. Got a steady repeating 38/39 target, deep and faint in lots of iron blips. Told my buddy that I either have an 8 Reales or a super deep chunk of iron. Told him 1000:1 odds it would be iron. His ATPro did not pick anything up. Dug a big 6” deep plug, pinpointer did not pick anything up, thought must be iron, then swung again and got the 38/39 signal again. Dug another 4” and finally pinpointed it and was shocked when LC popped out. 10 minutes later another 38/39 squeeker and again double scoop deep and a suspender clasp popped.

Both of these targets should be 28-30, why would they go so high? I am using Nox 600 Park1, Sens 21, 5 tones, horseshoe on, mid recovery, multi, no F2.

I have noticed a tendency for the Equinox to REALLY read high on a "good" target, when the target is really deep -- just as you are saying here. Not sure "why," and it doesn't ALWAYS happen (I am thinking it is site-dependent), but it sometimes definitely tends to read high, on mid to high conductors, when they are really deep.

Those are interesting TDI's for a coin. Since IB F2 came out, I get a lot of 38-39's too and every now and then a 40 will flash the screen. Upon dig, it's usually iron so I don't dig those numbers anymore. Many times my Nox will toggle back and forth from low to high 30's and it's usually a rusted square nail. The TDI's have definately changed since I downloaded F2.

I've had that happen on very deep fringe targets, mini balls, deep silver, deep musket balls. I love seeing those numbers :)

Most of my signals like that have been aluminum can tops that are laying flat.

I have noticed the same thing on wheats and early memorials on my EQX800. Since the latest update, it seems to be hitting harder on coppers...at least for me anyway. I'm digging deep wheaties that sometimes ring into the low 30's.

I will plead ignorance. What is "LC" ?

" finally pinpointed it and was shocked when LC popped out."

I had the nox for about 2 weeks before the update, but also see a difference....mainly only on wheats & memorials. Wheats a bit higher than before the update, but memorials often hitting 25-27 like dimes & sound sooo good when 4-5"s deep! Everything else seems the same though.

Along these lines, I actually got a "live dig" on film yesterday, of one of these high-reading wheat cents, on my EQX with the new Minelab update. It was my first hunt testing/trying the GoPro I bought, and if I can now figure out how to get the footage moved from the camera onto my computer, and then the even MORE difficult part -- get it edited -- I'll post a video here. On this dig, I essentially NEVER saw an ID number lower than 30 or 31. It was a perfect signal, and consistent 30s -- everywhere from low 30s to high 30s -- from ALL angles...

I had this happen a few times yesterday; on one of them (not sure if it was the one I got on film, or one beforehand), I absolutely thought I was digging silver; I was guessing a silver quarter...

Dumb question, but are any of you ground balancing? I wonder if that is affecting anything?

I've tested this with the machine ground balanced, and also at 0. It did not seem to make a difference. My soil is quite mild though, GB in Park 1 is around 14 +/-.

I've also noticed a slight change in numbers, but no difference in the tones which is what I rely on the most. I don't really get solid 38-40 signals, they always end up jumping around too much.

I was experiencing this well before I did the update, My belief is that, at fringe targets up average on the Nox regardless of what type of metal. I've dug lead(mini balls), aluminum(pulltabs), copper(coins) and silver that have read in the upper 30's. Like I said, I get very excited to see those number, because I know most are very deep hits.

Hmmmm.....I rarely get anything in the mid-high 30s. Quarters hit 29-30, some aluminum crushed cans or tops will hit mid 30s.....but so far that’s about it. My soil typically ground balances between 38-55. Maybe ground conditions have something to do with it???

today, two nickels, 1941 and 1946 solid 12s, then a solid 12 with the good deeper sound that says nickel but it was a pull tab. 2 wheaties 1931 ans 1942 that hit as 21 and 23. a great 30s hit, fairly deep was a Vienna sausage can LOL. using Field 2. the remaining 28-33 were various mashed cans or pieces. one great sounding hit was a short copper grounding stake.
