I don't see any reason not to. Just 4 screws hold it on the shaft, and you don't break into any watertight areas taking it off. Many of us have gone to carbon fiber shafts and taking the control pod off is part of the process.

Hoping someone can answer a question for me.
I'm travelling soon and was wondering if I can remove the control box from the shaft without damaging the unit.
I want to be able to pack as small as possible.
Any help would greatly appreciated.

Just don't overtighten the 4 screws holding the pod on the shaft. I remember seeing something from Minelab that it can cause water ingress.

Do put your pod in your carry on!

Thanks midalake.
I was planning on doing so since the baggage handlers can be pretty rough.

Update from my travel with the NOX. Neither USA or Mexican customs questioned what was in my carry on. Placed a sign in my bag with a description of what was in the bag.
Sad part is I was only able to hunt for an hour the second day in Mexico.
The NOX drowned.
It's on it's way to the repair shop.

Ive air traveled a few times with mine.....i remove the control pod, coil, arm cuff, and break down the shaft. Everything but the shaft goes in mt carry on. Shaft goes into my checked luggage. Dont forget your coil bolt & control pod screws! I somehow forgot my coil bolt last time....fyi a toilet seat bolt will work in a pinch! Have a good trip!
