I hate to say this- but I agree with the Dane :) :) :) :)

Before I hear all the chorus of "You have to pay to play" from loyal TN members or "Why are you so cheap" I have a few words.
I am not a charter member but believe me I contributed more to the server fund that most charter members have ever contributed here period. I did it because TN at the time promoted FREE SPEECH with the Politics/rants threads. What portion of the words "FREE SPEECH" do some members here not understand? I felt betrayed with the recent actions of TN regarding "FREE SPEECH".

Nothings free!, and this sight is owned by someone (who pays for it), "you wanna say you gota/outa pay". Its pretty rediculous to say "i desreve it" to someone whos paying real money to provide it.
Theres no such thing as free speech either, someone probaly gave thier life for it, may not of cost you nothing but it wasent free.
If youv contributed, good deal No offense, but this isent our sight to demand anything from, if dane doesent like let him move on.

Hi Texas Connection
I have read a lot of your posts and respect your opinion, however, I disagree with you on this.

If it is an issue of "if you use this site you have to pay for it" " Why aren't members required to be Charter members to
view "Today's finds" or "Best Finds" or the "Best of Treasurenet" or all of the other forums of this site? Why just in the Politics thread?

Or could it be that the owner of this site is well let's say just left of center and didn't like the overwhelming conservative makeup
of the politics thread? Didn't like the conservative viewpoint here and wanted to "stick it" to the conservatives?

All other MD forums are conservative and are supported quite well with their sponsors and do not charge their members money to support their site. Why the difference here?

Think about it.

Hi Baker , Thank you, I needed a compliment about now.
Its a private sight so the owner makes the rules thats the biggest reason, but I belive the reasoning was this, some folks were coming on just to post in the rubber room (they werent even affileated with the hobby) some even were coming here as internet trolls and attacking folks in the religious forum, werent utilizing the rest of the sight, and causing problems.
The rubber rooms topics are pretty High tension and though we all get along and share the hobby we can become pretty heated when it comes to Politics (I'm deffinetly subject to that). So I belive it was done to limit problems by keeping out folks that arent here for the hobby.
Im gratfull to Marc that folks can use the sight for free, and hope they will contribute if they enjoy it.
When I first came on I couldent post pictures unless I was a charter member so I became one. (its only 20.00 a yr) I dont know if thats so now.
So I stand by,- this sight is private property, and I also stand by Marcs decision to limit certain areas to members only.
I'v also seen improvments to the sight since I first started and Im sure Marc had to fork out money and time for them.

As far as weeding out conservatives, I dont believe that to be the case at all.
1) because marc is a pretty fair guy
2) because if it were the case it doesent seem to be working, It still just as many conservatives as there was b-4 and just as many liberals.

I dont know what you've contributed to the server fund or how but if its a issue to you maybe you should PM Marc.
I dont think "ALL" other MD forums are conservative either, and I bet once a sight becomes succesful and evolves they have Members only forums also.
I have to admit though Iv only visited a few other MD sights so cant speak on that 100% sure.

Thanks Bakergeol

Just seems to me, that if you restrict certain areas to "members only" --- as I have on the forums I have run in the past --- those areas are specific to the audience you want to attract.

Therefore, a racing forum would have many area open to the public with areas such as suspension tuning tips requiring membership. A team forum about a video game would leave most topics open to the public except maybe "tips and tricks" specific to that game.

Membership would then have its privileges, relevant to the theme of the forum --- not something of "general interest".

Restricting areas non-specific to the theme doesn't increase membership, but creates the ill feelings brought out in this thread. More likely to increase membership would be the restricting of a topic like "Todays Finds" or something that would give tips on how to "tune" your detector, specific "best practices" methods for conducting searches, etc.

And, regardless of what anyone says, the political climate in this country does create problems if you do not speak from the left. Center is unacceptable and from the right is downright offensive to most of the whiners. I have also noticed a somewhat leftward slant in the comments of one of the moderators.

One last item to consider: "Everything Else" should substitute as there is no other place to post political/religious observations and news items.

I found this site because I was wanting to learn more about treasure hunting and metal detecting. I did not find it by googling "politics", that wasn't my interest. BUT...to help everyone out here that is just busting at the seams to express their political opinions to others, here ya go!
http://www.politicsforum.org/
I didn't really check this site out; you may have to pay to view their metal detecting room. ;D

I came here to learn more of the fine points of treasure hunting, as PB said.

With all the new laws enacted retricting such pursuits, it only seems logical we should discuss politics.

Politics is simply the business of getting along with each other.

I'd rather (much rather) talk about it than the options!

My view is to keep as far away from the socialist viewpoint as possible because I sure don't want to be required to split my treasure finds with those who didn't find any.

From the posts I've seen here it sure does seem that gobment does an awful lot to prevent recovery of interesting things that have been lost to society... forever! We got to get out there and dig 'em up!

;D

I hate to "double post" but just for the hell of it, I have. I posted this in "Comedy Central" as a thank you for deleting a joke - nothing mean or offcolor or abusive in the post - about it. The second post is just so folks will see what is going on here.

If we are to subscribe to a certain political leaning, then by all means, make that known BEFORE you allow folks to join. Then you won't have people like me offending your political leftist leanings.

Joke; although funny to me was deleted by Me !

Before bedtime (10:00 PM Central Daylight Time), only one negative poster . . . and several positive posts who also agreed that it was funny. I actually didn't expect it to stay up for more than a couple of hours, because it was a test.

If so many were offended, why didn't they say so???

Please PM me and explain what was so offensive . . .

OK, Moderators--I will simply Delete the comment.  But I don't feel like there happens to be an even enough opinion on this forum to create a balanced discussion (which might keep the minority political viewpoint on this website from feeling attacked).   The TreasureNet mock election results supported this fact.

So I'll bow out of this one....

Best Wishes,

Buckleboy

The anger comes from one already living in a socialist country. It's their, 'why
should others have something that they paid for & the others who pay nothing
not be able to have it too, mentality. Stop whining & break out the lousy 20 bucks
already or beat it. With Barry Hussein going in, we'll be seeing a lot more of this
po me, po po me BS. It should be simple you don't pay, don't work or don't
contribute - you should do without.

I´m sorry Tubecity..
...but you got that all wrong.

I am speaking for all those who can not participate any more. Conservatives, liberals ... what ever.

The behavior of pushing some out, looks a lot more like the bad form of socialism than you´d ever know.
I have seen some the communist countries in Europe, when they were here. >:(
What goes on here sure looks like communism.

Some are more equal than others !!

Free after in the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell ! ;D

YES!

I did read Animal Farm.

Some are more equal than others.

I have seen it here.
I see it every day, here.

We're going to see a LOT more of it.

They went into the then new Charter members section along with the almost forgotten Rubber Room!

Bring back the Rubber Room and I'll pay 100$ annual fee.
Seriously.

BC, please stop resurrecting old political posts.
