1941
7 Dec.

The USS Arizona is the final resting place for many
of the ship's 1,177 crewmen who lost their lives on
December 7, 1941.
In the academies many books, at the circus many sacks of peanuts, at the club rooms many cigar butts.

When you get into a tight place and everything goes against
you till it seems you could not hold on a minute longer,
never give up then for that is just the place and time that
the tide will turn.

Re: 1941
I have always thought that Dec. 7th should have been made into a national holiday just like memorial day.

Re: 1941
Today is Pearl Harbor day.
On this date in 1941 the Japanese attacked the Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii killing nearly 2,400 people. They sent over 350 airplanes from 6 carriers in 2 separate waves.
5 battleships sunk,
2 destroyers sunk, 1 damaged
1 other ship sunk, 3 damaged
3 battleships damaged,
3 cruisers damaged
188 aircraft destroyed, 155 aircraft damaged,
2,345 military and 57 civilians killed,
1,247 military and 35 civilians wounded
The Japanese lost 5 subs, 29 aircraft and 64 men.
Never forget this date or the resulting war we were forced to fight that ended up being on two theatres. This attack started it, the atomic bomb ended it.
Millions of men, women and children died during WW2 all over the globe. Respect for those who died on this date and on all fronts who did their duty for their country and made the final sacrifice for their fellow man.

Great posts. There, but for the grace of GOD, and being sent to North Island for Aviation training instead of ship board duty at Pearl, would be I. Many of my class mates are still there.
