Let me be the FIRST to say how much I agree that this is one of the weirdest disasters of all time.

I have the book:

Puleo, Stephen, "Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919"

It made me hungry for molasses. I went out and bought a bottle of blackstrap. Try it on vanilla ice cream.

That was a big tank but it still seems like the loss of life was excessive. Strange story; I'd never heard of it before. The learning continues.

I cannot imagine a river of molasses traveling at 35 mph. Must have been a site to see.
