Hi all, yesterday we here recorded the highest temperature ever 117 degrees. By 7 pm last nite there was over 200 fires across the state.500 homes gone 65 dead 85 burn and total is still rising.Well the fires started about mile up the road from where i live and only the freeway saved the rest of the houses in the area. Some of my friends have lost everything and a very sad day here.

The fire got to within 250 yards of my house. So lucky i am.Anyway heres a few pics took last nite at 7 pm.the flames were over 30 feet high and the fire was moving at 20 miles an hour.

We've had our share of wildfires out west so we know what you are facing. Ours are mostly due to arson and some lightening. Folks build in wilderness areas and lose their homes to fires in the western states a lot. Thankfully the death toll has been low compared to what you guys are facing. The tree huggers won't let the folks remove the underbrush because of some rare sap sucking beetle or something as rediciulous and when it ignites it goes up with a firestorm. But the outlaws have no trouble cultivating pot out in those same wilderness areas! Be safe and keep us informed. Monty

Australian fire zone a crime scene; 131 killed

WHITTLESEA, Australia (AP) -- Suspicions that some of Australia's worst wildfires ever were deliberately set led police to declare crime scenes in incinerated towns on Monday, and a clearly emotional prime minister likened the alleged arson to mass murder. The death toll stood at 131.

The scale of the carnage, growing daily, has shocked a nation that endures deadly firestorms every few years. There were no quick answers, but officials said panic and the freight-train speed of the firefront probably accounted for the unusually high toll.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, visibly upset during a television interview, reflected the country's disgust at the idea that arsonists may have set some of the 400 fires that devastated Victoria state, or helped them jump containment lines.

"What do you say about anyone like that?" Rudd said. "There's no words to describe it, other than it's mass murder."
