I just picked some . I figure it will stimulate the growth a little of some of the smaller "buds".

LOL

I just had a can of Fosters yesterday. One can. I'm frugal.

Nice plant. I used to make beer years ago... now I mostly drink it. :icon_thumleft:

Hmmmm. Hops. I've always wondered what the old timers meant when they called youngsters, "Hop Heads"? :dontknow:
Well, I guess I'm an old timer now, but that is beside the point.....

PS.
I think hops are related botanically to Cannabis.....

YYEEEAAAAAAA!!!!! That is a true passion. God speed my friend.

Could I give you a very small bit of advice that you don't need to follow? When you use your hops, peel off all the "bad" stuff. Get just the pure 'fruit' of the hop. It'll take some time to do it manually... But, then again, I remember hand peeling pee's when I was a kid... it was well worth it.

Hops. I planted some years ago and they have become a weed in my back yard. The darn stuff has spread 25 ft from where I planted it. I dug up some of the roots and they are an inch in dia. where they had spread through my yard. Nasty stuff. I did enter some hops in our local fair last week and won first place. Hooray!!!

It's funny you mentioned that the hops are botanically related to cannabis, as I really like to drink very hoppy beers and sometimes get a whiff or pick up a slight aroma that reminds me of a fresh marijuana bud(not that I have ever been around a fresh marijuana bud :D!)...Good luck Mojjax! Hope the beer you make turns out really well!!! Gpurs...

I homebrew too - although not as much now with a lot of my time going to hunting. Good luck with your brews!

Re: HOPS.....I'm gonna make some beer!

Those are nice looking hops !

I have a nearby source for them, and hope to homebrew soon.

In studying the process, I've found only a small amount of hops are used.
Some for bittering, some for aromatic quality.
And, they are a preservative.

Unlike the barley amount, in pounds, the hop volume is measured in ounces.
Which might actually be kinda large in volume, considering they are fluffy....

Thing is, specific hops are requested for different beer recipes.
The ones I have access to are of unknown variety.

Is there some way to determine what they are?
Is there some place I could send them to determine their AI ?

They propagate by rhyzome clippings, so I'm gonna dig up some of the roots
this winter and transfer them to some new places, including my yard.
(Johnny Appleseed kinda thing !)

I wish there was barley growing nearby !
I'd just HAVE to give malting a try...

Best

Cool! I thought I was the only one. I only have Cascade growing at the moment.
