big bass eat baby ducks --oh yah -- I once saw a monster catfish follow a momma duck and her ducklings across a pond --she started across with 4 babies behind her in a line (awww how sweet)-- by the time she got to the other side she had none left -- the old catfish just got behind them and sucked em down one by one . --when she turned around it was sad , sad , sad -- if their big enough the cats and pike will eat adult ducks as well. -- by the way the big cat was very tasty --I went and got a yellow rubber duckie type bath toy --rigged it with a hook and splashed it out there twitching it slowly --the old boy came a running --last mistake he ever made -- weighted out at almost 30 lbs.

Alligator snapping turtles have the same technique on a string of baby ducks and are just as effective .

Looks like fish aren't the only ones biting today.

Convinced me enough that if I could wrangle an invite to go fishin I'd stop at the W/D grocery
on A1A on the way in and buy all the slabs of their ribs and beer necessary for a fishin trip as well as boat fuel if needed . :hello2:

I'd second that , with the addition of firecrackers and skyrockets in anticipation of celebrating another record being set.

If that on the st johns? We have some cats in the Tennessee River. Big ones. I used to jug them when I was a kid. You cant paddle as fast as they would pull a jug at night. Always fun.

nope this charity catfshing contest is held at a several acre well stocked pond * there are 100 spots * sold ( each spot can have 2 persons with 1 pole in the water each --or 1 person with 2 poles) --cost is $275 per 2 man team -- no live fish allowed as bait (since one nitwit showed up with goldfish as "bait" one year) --which is illegal to use as bait by law , besides lil kids there cried upon seeing goldfish (often a kids pet) used as bait . -- in 2000 I won with the first ever "bubba" caught a 38.04 lber --worth $5,000 -- last year the overall weight got beat by a 45 lber and me and the cuz took 7th place -- this is my 10th year in the contest -- in the past 9 years --I've won once and came in 7th last year --not too bad odds wize . on a rough odds random basis -- in ten years with 10 places to win and / 100 spots (teams)--one could expect 1 top ten finish--- I've had two already and thats not counting whatever I do this year yet.

Goldfish are illegal to use as bait in Fl.? That stinks, up here all the bait shops sell them. I don't like using them 'cause the bass usually get to them before the catfish. A hand sized bluegill works better then anything for the big flatheads around here. Good luck at the contest Ivan,

Charlie

the dnr doesn't the gold fish getting loose and screw things up --their basically gold colored carp --bad news for fish bedding areas in fresh water --fla being the bass fish draw it is wants nothing that will mess with that --thus its a no no --I agree a plam to handsized bluegill is ideal big catfish bait in public waters in florida its allow provided the bluegill is hook and line caught and it counts toward your total allowible daily take of them even if used as bait. --can not use em on trotlines only rod and reel.
