Just a little duct tape

During a private "fly-in" fishing excursion in the Alaskan wilderness,
the chartered pilot and fishermen left a cooler and bait in the plane; and, a bear smelled it. This is what he did to the plane.

The pilot used his radio and had another pilot bring him 2 new tires,
3 cases of duct tape, and a supply of sheet plastic.
He patched the plane together, and FLEW IT HOME!

I carry duct tape in my detector van and have several rolls at home...there is almost nothing that can't be fixed with duct tape.... :icon_thumright:

Good evening: In WW-2 on our Douglas A-26, which was put together in sections, the 1/4" gaps were covered with a variety of this tape.. It held nicely until I hit about 350 - 400 mph, then it came loose and you could hear the whistle / wind noise it made in the opposite hemisphere of the world, although some, strangely enough, made very little noise..

Our original B-26 Martins were constructed around a solid I beam, similar to ship construction and had no gaps like this.

Today in Mexico in the back country, it is used extensively on the commercial Cessna 206's for temp. field repairs, although the final repair many times consisted of a new section of the tape. he he.

I'm very impressed with the fellow's timely repair... far better than leaving it behind for the bear to finish off !

However, if it wasn't my own plane, you couldn't get me in it if there were any other reasonable option for getting back home.

...It's one of those Kenny Rogers kinda things...
