I must be getting old. I forgot all about the comics in the bubble gum wrapper.
Now that's the good old days.

Re: TANG
Miners waiting to go on shift would pitch dimes on the canteen steps for us kids to fight over ....You bite enough ears , gouge enough eyes , and smash enough noses you could be set for the whole week
in one active afternoon .
If you didn't get any dimes you hobbled your bloody self home and told your folks a bunch of kids jumped you at ball practice 'cause you weren't supposed to be hanging out at the Company Store anyhow .

Re: TANG
Didn't care for tang either.
How about pixie sticks!!! A tube full of sugar.
When we visited Grandma, dad would take us to the old store down the street where he would give us each a nickle. We would come home with a bag full of candy. Can you even get a gumball for that now?
Oh yes and we would help the neighbors put hay in my (other) granparents barn acoss the road from home. They rented the barn. At the end of the day they would toss us a couple beers. Oops did I say beers? I meant root beers! yeah that's it, it was root beers. Cause no adult would do such a thing as that. They would end up in jail. Of course 40+ years ago we didn't have all the $@)% scumbag lawyers and politically correct socialistic services rejects sticking their noses into everyone elses business.

Re: TANG
Did they have 'Flavour Straws' in the U.S. A straw with a strawberry, or chocolate impregnated piece of what looked like filter material of some sort. When put in milk, the theory was that as you sucked the milk up the straw it would change to strawberry or chocolate milk.. But, in reality you had to swish the straw around in the milk for several minutes before anything changed colour or flavour..
Fizzies probably taste like crap now, it's amazing what kind of crap we would eat as kids..
