Sorry - didn't mean to go over your post.

I think we were both typing about the earthquake and impending tsunami's at the same time. The posts are only a few seconds off.

It is a huge circle.

It's fine with me, don't worry. How would we know?

Alright, it's survival of the fittest now! just kidding :D

The aftershocks are filling the original quake marker.

Any guesses where the next one will be?

BTW, that map only lists 4.0 mag or larger quakes.

Yes, that's what they are saying on the television - and there has been thousands.

The strength of a quake goes up exponentially for each 1/10 of magnitude rating.

The Chilean quake was 500 times stronger than the Haitian quake, but it was deeper. CNN showed a graph rating it between the Mt. St. Helen's eruption (on the high end), and the Hiroshima bomb (on the low end).

Well, at least it seems that Hawaii is going to be safe.

It actually did damage to buoys off the California coast - whew!

Luckily it wasn't a large tsunami. I haven't seen the news lately, didn't hear about the buoys, but did see Calif. and Alaska still have warnings.

The tsunami waves from Chile have reached New Zealand.

4.4mag just occurred in Oklahoma. http://www.iris.edu/seismon/

Effects of the Quake on the Planet

Heard this on the evening news. The effects of the quake on the whole planet:

“The length of the day should have gotten shorter by 1.26 microseconds (millionths of a second),” Gross, said today in an e-mailed reply to questions. “The axis about which the Earth’s mass is balanced should have moved by 2.7 milliarcseconds (about 8 centimeters or 3 inches).”
