Actually possums have figured out that in crossing the road, it is safer to let an armadillo go first, to test the waters, so to speak.

funny but true story - my 90 year old mother in law had a lil 3 room mother in law house "out back" of our home . -- she had a habit of throwning food scraps out of her door onto the yard , i told her not too but heck she was 90 -- and hardheaded .

one night at about 2 am --we get a call from my "mother in law" --help ,help someones is trying to break in !!!

so i grab my shotgun and go out the back door -- i look about but can find no one and while the screen door is unlocked theres no signs of anyone attempting to break in the main door to the house which was locked --however my mother in law --swore she heard some one trying to get in --quite odd *
so i go sit on the porch in the dark with my shotgun and flashlight in case they "return"-- after about a hour --I hear shuffling sounds near the door area -- so i aim the gun in the area of the sound and turn the light on -- nothing -- but the the sounds * so I lower the light -- yep a Possum -- it was looking for food scraps and had pryed open the screen door and got caught in the door as it being spring powered to stay closed shut on its head --- during its struggles to get free * it had beat and banged the door making noise -- laughing wickedly -- I went back inside and made up a wanted poster with a possum on it on my computer -- in the morning I told my mother in law that I saw her "intruder" and ran him off -- and had a wanted poster of em --she said let me see it -- brother was she ticked when she found out what it was -- I told her see what you get for throwing food scraps out in the yard , it draws em --do not do it --she was like --kill it , kill it -- i refused -- i told her its harmless unless you corner it -- if cornered its got small but razor sharp teeth ,and since its eats dead things --its bite could be quite nasty .
