Fleeing small fire, woman grabs cat and drives through garage door


After a fire started in her kitchen, an Overland Park KS. woman picked up her cat, got in her car and – when the garage door didn’t rise – backed through it to safety, the fire department said.

It happened about 8 p.m. in the 11000 block of West 115th Street.

The fire, which apparently started when food was left on the stove, was extinguished quickly and contained to the kitchen, the fire department said. The rest of the duplex had some minor smoke damage.

No injuries were reported, though a department statement described the garage door as “demolished.”
