dirt streets were here long before "paved" roads --ask the romans * who started all that paved roads stuff.

paved roads have caused the death of many a animal and quite a few folks as well .---they are " black ribbons of death."

oh street smarts

well a street is not just a street because it is paved. a street is a street ya know. dirt or not, so anyone with some smarts would know a street is a street regardless of what it is made out of (is that correct?)

now if you don't have a street, and hike to your home or work, having no streets at all...then do you have street smarts....NO, cause you are a crazy person for living where there is no street I guess. seems some type of street is somewhere...even a donkey path or animal trail could be considered a street right? :icon_scratch: what the heck is a street exactly?

hahahahaha

Anyone who thinks their place is the only place with streets, obviously has no smarts at all.

listen to --peter, paul & marys --"the coming of the roads"

paved asphalt roads are "death" -- once paved roads hit a rural area --it brings "progess" ie development and growth -- thus lots more folks which in turn build big citys -- lots and lots of land cemented over and paved over -- no land left for wild life to live on or wild food areas for them tto feed off of .

so they are forced to roam about in a disperate search for food -- thus having to cross --*the black ribbons of death" to get from food area to food area

paved asphalt roads are a "hallmark" of modern -- hurry , hurry , rush , rush life -- folks drive at high rates of speed upon them -(much faster than you can on a dirt road) - making a tire blow almost a sure death type of event , and accidents that might have been avoidible at slower speeds often occur because of the high rates of speed on paved roads ----- yes asphalt "paved roads" are -" BLACK RIBBONS OF DEATH"

I guess I'd be considered "country" for this exercise. "Streetsmart" to me means a city slicker's knowledge/awareness of all the negative, low-life happenings of city dwelling and how to either outdo the perps or avoid falling prey to their activity. Basically, "streetsmart" is a means of surviving in negative surroundings. Now, in the country, we don't have to be "streetsmart" for that type of survival, we just use something called "common sense" to get by. :icon_thumleft:

I was going to do a full dissertation on "street smarts", but then I realized many of you live in rural areas and may not have streets. :icon_scratch:

So my question to the country folk, is what do you call "street smarts" and how do you get it without streets :dontknow:

Most of us country folk have been to the 'towns' a time or two . Street smarts , for us , are simple :
(1) You come up my country road either you were invited and will be welcomed when you arrive , or
(2) You drove into my place uninvited to
Sell me magazines or Bibles
Try to change my religious preference or politics
Sell me storm windows , a roof or driveway paving job
Burglarize my home if I'm gone or strongarm rob me if i am there
Standard answer to #2 :
Yes , my dog bites . Do not exit your car . Turn at the end of my drive and leave .
Yes , this is a 12gauge , fully loaded with OObuck .
No , when the Sherrif I helped vote into office gets here I'll be the only one able to tell the story .

Country road smarts ? :tongue3:

A shorter version is to not screw with a country boy...

My dad, for instance, confiscated 3 shot guns and hunting boots from some city dudes that hunted our fields without permission...and by the way, had shot dad's hunting dog.

The first mistake was shooting the dog...

The second mistake was filing a complaint with the local sheriff... :coffee2:

Stefen ,
Your Father was a gentleman of remarkable restraint and culture . I have met few people in my life
that I hold in as high regard as my dog .
Those people would never harm my dog ..........
