What Books are You Reading?
Just curious, but, what books are you reading right now?
Fiction? Non Fiction? Pulp?
What subject? What story plot?
Me?
Well, right now, I'm reading Carl Sandberg's 4 volume set of "Lincoln: The War Years."
I'm on volume three as of this posting. It's somewhat tedious with minute details at times, but very informative as to the populace sway of the era.
The set that I have was purchased maybe 15 or more years ago and it is the Harcourt and Brace Edition from 1937.
And your readings?
Best wishes,
Scott

Not reading...writing. A story about a buried treasure. Imagine that.
Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you. Acts 13:41

PLEASE! Next you're gonna talk about Libraries and card catalogs.
Who needs books? Who needs Libraries?
What a sad time....

PS. Kentucky, my Friend, if you write it, they will come!

Re: What Books are You Reading?
For bedside reading, I'm currently perusing "The Hand Book of Chemistry and Physics." 64Th Edition. By CRC Publishing. 1984.
It is a 1000+ page "reference" tome including chemical breakdowns, tables of physics and chemical reactions, properties, the elements, and results thereof....
I'm beginning to think that maybe this is information that some should NOT know....
But, maybe it is best that I know....
My Best,
Scott

Re: What Books are You Reading?
I'm reading Harry Turtledoves The Guns of The South. I'm about halfway through it now.
It's known as an "alternate history" book. The plot involves a group of South African Boer mercenaries who travel back in time to arm Robert E. Lee and the Confederacy with AK-47 Kalashnikov rifles. Johnny Reb has just overrun Washington DC and forced Abe to surrender...

Also reading a few chapters daily from one of the many guides on antiques and collectibles.

Hopefully I will be teaching the subject within the next two years. I'm in my second go-round of college after a disastrous career in agriculture lol!
Abe was not prepared for the AK-wielding Rebs. He should have had more forethought:

Thanks for the well wishes! I hope to inspire my future students in the same manner I was inspired myself - by a good history teacher. My former professor had a very unorthodox style. He wasn't so big into "date memorization", but rather "era memorization". He was also very adept at pointing out how events from the past continue to shape today's headlines - i.e. the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the British mandate of Palestine. He could have talked about Lincoln less, but he was from Illinois so I had to forgive him for his obsession with Honest Abe...

By the way, Tucco, my Friend,
Where is that your money is coming from for these college courses?
Is it the Pell Grant? Is it a loan? Or, GASP! You are paying from your own pocket?
I encourage you to post on this thread!

Re: What Books are You Reading?
Most of my book reading is confined to reference or technical subjects. Most of my reading is in the form of magazines. I get about 12 by sub. each month. They vary from photography to history to science. They include Pop. Science, Pop. Mechanics, Pop. Photography,Smithsonian, History, National Geographic Expeditions, GPAA mag, Good Sam mag,LOW mag., etc, etc, etc. I find mags. have the most up to date info available. Reading is to time consuming to waste on fiction. If I want good action fiction, I watch a movie. Frank
