    Tough nuts to crack!

I met the toughest squirrel in the world today. He was eating my cable TV and phone lines for the last 3 months. I hunted him relentlessly all this time and usually just got a glimpse of his bushy tail disappearing into the trees down the street. This morning I baited him with an ear of corn tied to a tree where he couldn't get it and run. Sure 'nuff this morning right at daylight he had that ear of corn up on a limb chewing away. I took careful aim at one of his beady little eyes with my scoped .177 pellet rifle at 30 yds. and squeezed one off. Pop! Down he went, hit the ground and twitched a few times and then went to meet Jesus. (Or so I thought)! My wife and I celebrated with a scrambled egg and some bacon with black coffee and then I went out to bag him up for the trash man. He was gone! Not one fleck of blood, nothing! He either got up and ran off with his eye shot out or now he's a zombie and will try to scratch his way into the the house some night to eat my brain! Isn't that what zombies do? I can only hope he will run off somewhere and pass on to that great home in the sky or some big hungry stray dog came by and scooped him up for a quick snack. At any rate he is the craftiest and toughests little nut I have tried to crack in all my big game exploits. Well, he is the biggest game animal on my block at least. Anyone know how to keep a zombie at bay? Silver bullet, garlic? Or should I just reload my .177 golden pellets at 1200 fps and be alert? Monty

Well what you should have done after you capped him was go over pick him up, skin him and prep him for breakfast. You were gonna eat anyway right? Squirrels are good eaten! They go good with eggs, biscuits and gravy!

This is why you never shoot a bear with a .38...just makes them mad! Now he's out for revenge. Wear goggles for a while, as an acorn fired from a bent branch in the eye really stings!!!

(Not invented the "coup de grace" over there yet? )

I should have followed up so it's my fault I guess? I saw another one today that was missing a tail! Funniest looking thing I ever saw! But I know I didn't shoot the wrong end so it must be another critter moving in. He/she was a big fat one too. I set out bait and watched it most of the day but no takers today. I need to eliminate this scourge before I have my surgery and can't get out and take care of them. I'll be out first thing in the morning you can bet. Monty

Yup, Monty, it looks like you will have to melt down some silver coins and make a couple bullets.

Use one on the squirrel and keep the other.
