NASA Satellite is falling faster than expected and will crash this week
PLEASE Hit My House.
I Need a New Roof !!!!!
NASA employees are now holding their breath as the 6.6 ton (6 tonne) out-of-control Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) is falling faster than previously expected. Yesterday, NASA announced that the decommissioned satellite is most likely to crash into the earth's surface on Friday 23 September ... give or take a day.
UARS will come crashing back to Earth after it was placed into orbit almost twenty years ago. Although the spacecraft will break into pieces during re-entry, not all of it will burn up in the atmosphere beforehand. It is anticipated that 26 large fragments of the UARS satellite will actually fall to Earth, in a rain of debris altogether weighing about 1,170 pounds/532 kg (the largest weighing 300 pounds/150 kg). More information is available in our original article.

Re: NASA Satellite is falling faster than expected and will crash this week
you ate the lye based cod *made*lutefish didn't you ? , poor bugger -- stinks to high heaven -- try the one made with pollock / haddock and birch ash., limestone & water instead -- its so much better no stinky order -- you can ship me some lutefish --provided its not the foul smelling lye based cod type (it is not fit fot hiumans to eat that type)-- you can send me say some of the good nice "birch ash" style prepared pollock or haddock - lutefish.-- serve it with a nice cream style white sauce (seasoned as you like) some "swedish meatballs" and boiled potatos and beer and akvavit ( gin )

If a piece lands near you, your supposed to not touch it and call the police so FEMA can come out and remove it. Imagine that.

There is something about this fall that I admit I don't understand AT ALL. If a meteorite falls on your property, it is yours against all other claimants, at least in the United States (Sorry Dano, don't know about Sweden). But for some reason if a satellite falls on your property it belongs to them? I don't think so. Conversely, if true, any damage caused you should be able to sue to recover damages.
I would not let FEMA or anyone else recover a piece of this from my land. It is mine to do with as I wish. It was allowed to fall. As such, IMO, the owner has ceded all property rights to recovery of precious metals from it. Many communications satellites have PMs in them, especially Platinum, Palladium, Iridium, Indium and others, with much higher values than gold. I'd use the metal content as basic value, then work into the collector's value of the item, using recent meteorite sales as indicators. After all, if meteorite collectors are willing to pay that much for iron and nickel, think what the market value for PMs is.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. But with my luck the guys in black suits and sunglasses would come and haul me away, never to be seen again.

Actually it's Pretty simple.
Meteorite Isn't owned by anyone.
Space junk is still owned
by the Person who put it up there.
That being said, That person who put it up there
would Be paying me at least $1,000,000.oo
after Lawyers fees & Taxes

Yep, Jeff, truly an international safety issue, don't you think. Are satellites instruments of terrorists? Do they have to be sequestered at Guantanamo for 15 years?

I'm mysteriously cool. I can't put too much info on here.
Re: NASA Satellite is falling faster than expected and will crash this week
Don't get all excited just yet people. Currently, the satellite is about the size & weight of a mini school bus. It's falling at some crazy fast speed of like 5 miles per minute or something. B-U-T...
Most of the satellite will be burned to bits while making it's descent towards Earth. It will also slow down a bit too. So, wherever it hits, YES, there will be some damage, but, minor to none IMO.
Remember, the Earth is comprised of almost 75% water, so, I'd say it has a pretty good shot of not even hitting land But, what's the fun in that, right?!?! Is this better? It's going to hurtle towards the Earth causing the most catastrophic explosion we've ever seen. Virtually every living organism (humans included) will be wiped out - thereby making mankind extinct. Haha. Now THAT'S what I call a barrel of laughs

I just read the latest report. It will hit water. There is enough fuel on board to guide it's decent.
