Re: Ways to save money in depressed times
You can make shoes last twice as long by only wearing them every other day
Who needs Cartwheel Pennies anyway?

Only turn the hot water heater on one day a year........"bath day!"
But on a serious note, I use to take all my loose change to the bank every few weeks and I deposited it but I never record it in my checkbook. And, I also rounded off my withdraws and check amounts to the next highest dollar. At the end of the year you can't believe how much money you have saved!

Lock the ole lady up in the barn where she can't spend your money on shoes.
I had a guy that brought his sandwiches to work in bread wrapper bags and folded them up to take home for another use.

Re: Ways to save money in depressed times
Instead of buying the daily paper, pick it out of the trash the next day... Heck, it's still pretty recent news and you'll save between $160-200 a year

In that vein, you can also eat off a paper plate, let it dry, turn it over and use it for the next meal

Just a lil' bit outta plumb...
Re: Ways to save money in depressed times
Grow your own veggies. Kill/process your own meat. Catch your own fish. Make your own likker (legal, last I knew). Grow your own weed, (unlawful) if you smoke, but do NOT do that on your own property. Ride a bicycle (the most energy efficant way of travel). Stay home. Use electricty only when needed. Don't spend money just because it makes you feel better and you have it. If you DO have a need to buy something, buy HANDTOOLS, not something electrical, and clothing fashion is nothing but a WASTE of money. Purchase durable and functional clothing. Learn to fix and repair anything and everything. Books and manuals are good for this, and are a worthy investment. As stated above, if you eat out, ask for a carry out box for your leftovers. Always grab a double handfull of paper napkins when hitting a fast food joint, good for emergancy TP, checking oil in machinary, blowing your nose. Depend on no one but yourself, and be frugal. Money ain't everything, but it sure helps if'n you got a lil' bit. I ain't got much, but I get by fairly well... could always use more handtools, got a shop full of 'em, but never know when there will be a need where I ain't got what's needed. Never forget the barter system. Both parties get something they desire, yet no dollars change hands.

Re: Ways to save money in depressed times
I'll vote, I do in EVERY county/state/federal election. Live in the woods, so no municipality elections. Just ain't decided who will be the best canidate at this point. I'm "an independant", not affilated with any party, so my vote won't count for much other than my own sense of just and rightousness. We'll see what next year brings. But I WILL vote.

Re: Ways to save money in depressed times
Navy Dude... I'm just an old Combat Engineer, A NCO 20 years on the ground. No reason to "Aye, Aye" me, don't even liked being called,"sir" or Mister. I'm Robin, cut&died. I've let my USCG liscene expire. Used to shrimp daily in season. Piloted a trawl boat. Tossed a 12 foot radius cast net. Caught the dickins outta shrimp. Children who aren't family think I'm a pirate, hence CaptainRobin... since I did at one point have a Captain's License and piloeted a shrimp boat. Kinda screwy, but I'm honest, don't want anything you may have, won't tolerate thieves, liars, abusers, users. Just wanna be a good man, help my neighbors if they need it, love my wife.

Re: Ways to save money in depressed times
I always vote, but I don't vote for some one I usually vote against someone because I know what the guy in there did, but I don't know what the new guy will do. The last guy ran on one word "change". Now I know what he meant. There is only change left in the Treasury. Frank

When mailing letters to friends, just coat the stamp with clear nail polish, when it arrives to your friend they can erase the cancellation stamp, soak off the stamp, treat it again and recycle that bad boy

Stockpile staples like rice when it's on sale... I have a bag of rice date back to the Ming Dynasty
Also use public toilets as often as possible to save on toilet paper.
Get all of your condiments from a fast food chain too
