Damn Winter
I had people over to the house yesterday to have a pre-holiday party and watch the Giants and Jets games....which both lost.
My brother pulls out his phone and shows a video of a late 1800s house getting ripped down. It is a tear down that he purchased a year or two ago. I've detected it before with some success. The video was shot on Friday and they have not back filled the basement yet. So I was up at 4:30 since I could not sleep and sunrise was around 7. I headed over to the house with detector and shovel in hand. The hole had water in it that was frozen and the ground around it was rock hard. After 10 or 15 minutes I just gave up and went home to get ready for work. Damn winter...I have to find out when they are going to start building the new homes. May still be able to save some history before this is all done.
Happy hunting everyone.

Re: Damn Winter
Well the good part is that both teams can still make the play-offs
If you want, I'll come up there with my backhoe, it has no problem with frozen ground

I'm a Giants fan but like to see the Jets do well...I'm all about the local teams winning.
lol...there was a backhoe on the site...I should have waited for the workers and had them move some dirt around for me. Still have to call my brother to find out when they are breaking ground on the new houses. Would still love to hunt the areas that had brush and small trees that were removed.

Yup...I have three kids in the house and one is a five week old so i've been going a little crazy. Still trying to squeeze in some detecting time. On Monday I feed and changed the baby between 4:30 and 5:30am then went out to the house site to detect but found the ground frozen so back to my house to get ready for work.
The beach thing is just because were going down to the OBX between Christmas and New Years. I figured I should be able to sneak out a few times while I'm down there. Normally I do very little beach hunting but I do enjoy it.
Since my wife always accuses me of being in the CIA I will have to turn down the video taping offer...don't want my face on tape. Plus it is an 8 hour drive so I'm sure you don't want to go that far to video tape an idiot freezing his butt off while detecting.
Happy hunting

Re: Damn Winter
Winter, what winter? We haven't had our few inches of wet snow yet this winter and about have the rain fall of normal. And it ALWAYS rains here in Western Washington, always.

It snowed here before Halloween but has not snowed since...I just hate the ground being rock solid.
Didn't they officially change that Christmas song in Washington to Let it Rain, Let it Rain, Let it Rain...
