The ME 109 was a great fighter, but I think the Focke Wulf 190 was superior

the 190 was made later on in the war -- the 109 and spitfire were both superior planes in 1939 /40 early war years thus its a fairer match up head to head --there were some later model editions of the spitfire that went toe to toe with the 190's later on in the war.

HIO the P-51 series were claimed to be the best AFTER they received the Britland Rolls Royce engines. An aircraft that just begged to be flown and was easy to fly also.

P 51 after they got the british engines - were rated by most every pilot that ever flew one as the "hands down" best prop plane fighter of WW2

Americas epitome of patriotism and freedom is the statue of Liberty...Britains is the spitfire. What this plane (along with Hurricanes) and it's pilots achieved stands as the pinnacle of "British pride"!
The sight...and especially the sound of one, can make a Brit' tear up and stand straighter. Along with all it's other achievements, quite frankly it's just the sexiest plane ever!

yep , the spitfire gets the glory --but by the numbers - enemy planes downed vs being downed -- it was the humble hurricane and its pilots that saved the brits bacon in the air superiority battle over britian

Hio, my friend Deegan was a pilot in both during the Battle of Britan, and flatly stated that the Hurricane was a far superior gun platform. My cousin was a volunteer of the RAAF and was in the battle of Britan, later released into the USAF.
