Are your National Forest Lands Off Limits Now?

Just wondering how things are elsewhere.

Our local Stanislaus National Forest just started implementing a motor vehicle use plan that prohibits vehicular travel on roughly 90% of our forest roads. The cited claim is to prevent the spread of non-native weeds and protection of a few endangered species.

They actually paid someone to check 14 vehicles for weed seeds and found 4 of them had an average of 3.6 seeds on them, which they say fall off and germinate within 200 yards. No mention of how they got there or how many seeds are in cattle hooves and droppings. While they were at it they gave the off roaders 113 miles of self made trails. (huh?)

Anyway from 12/15 to 4/15 certain roads are off limits and I have no idea how you would access your mining claim if you had one that needed one of these many roads to get to it.

What's happening in your neck of the woods?

Go to the website of your local forest and check for the MVUM (motor vehicle use maps). You might be surprised. $150 to $5000 fine.
