I started watching it when I was 13, I'm 63 so that tells you a lot... I saw a lot of the major groups when they were just starting out playing on American Bandstand..

I still remember seeing my late sister dancing on Bandstand when it was still a daily program from Philly, circa 1959. I believe they took the train from Reading to Philly, and did that trip several times. It was about the only program a preteen or teen could watch in the afternoon on a weekday. LOL, We only had the 3 major network channels than and perhaps one or two local stations. UHF channels were all snow back then in Reading, Pa.

There is no doubt that he brought rock & roll into many households and gave many a band their much needed break.

Now let's take a different look at the list previously posted. Count the number of acts that he actually survived. After you do this, look at the list again, and this time see how many acts survived only to have their careers die.

That list just a lot more manageable
