My experience with HughesNet Satellite Internet
We've had the HughesNet satellite internet now for 4 days.
I offer this info for those who may know someone who is considering it.
Pros:
1. Internet for those whose only other option is dialup.
2. Okay for those who don't watch online videos.
3. Free downloading from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Cons:
1. The download speed constantly fluctuates even in very good weather.
2. It rarely gets the promised 1000 kbps down (average 700 from about 1 a.m. to about 5 p.m.).
3. Average download speed after 5 p.m. is about 300 kbps with times as low as 70 kbps (dialup is about 55 kbps).
4. Downloading from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. limited to 250 MBs. Those who go over that amount receive very slow service for 24 hours.
5. Cost about twice as much per month as quality DSL ($60).
It has several serious issues but it's still better than dialup.
Just thought maybe somebody might want to know.

sounds a lot like the crappy internet we had from the locals in Iraq. Just put about 50 people on that service and it would be the same.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know HughesNet was that bad.

This is my final post for this thread.
Earlier today the satellite internet ran 2700 kbps. Right now at 10:27 p.m. it's running about 20 kbps. It's too slow to even load a speed checker.
I sure miss my DSL
