Cant go wrong with a Dachshund.
I am of coarse biased though.
Oscar is a miniature dachshund, but large for what he is. Right at 20#'s 5 years old.
Chicks dig him!

I think I would second the Jack Russel. My Neighbor has 2. Very friendly, good watchdog, fast as a greased lightning bolt. Not the run away type. Very good bonding qualities. Frank

True. Been around several of them. But also very territorial, too much so for my liking.

cockers I believe have alot of inbreeding and genetic problems (I THINK) be sure you get a good one. medical troubles come along with that.

I remember reading up on cockers and for some reason that came into play. be sure to get something that is kinda medical proof if you can lol

Why not go shopping at the pound? You might find an interesting mixture.
My best dogs either found me or I found them at the animal shelter.

My thoughts on a community that limits dog size,
Must be about the large size bi-products & misbehaving. ;)
Sounds silly to me, some of the best breeds for community living are large.

The pounds down here are full of dogs that are part Pit-bull, I want no part of that. I have been to the pounds but I really want to start with a puppy. Yep, I agree, certain breads of large dogs are great but it was a rule long before I got here so I have no problem living with it. I'm sure they have their reasons. My guess, some people would want those breads of large dog that are not community or people friendly.

HH,

I had a female friend who had a Basset hound. Neat dog. Smart dog. Fun dog. Love ice creme cones. But, hated children for some reason. Wanted to eat every child it saw.

Mine are teddy Roosevelt rat terriers. Dispositions in a litter vary like many breeds, from mellow to racy. Always sleep in the house at night and will be snugglebunnies if allowed. Matching pups temperament to new owner more important than anything once yard fenced properly ,decent vet and loving home with exercise and study of breed established. Most of these characters have no idea they are not giants. For the record ,breed named in honor of Teddy,he had other type ratters than these.
