Really? When is the last time 24 states,or whatever it is by now, threatened to secede from the Union?Ahhh as far as I can recall, never. And who are the radical masses, you must mean the people who are sick of the corruption, high taxes, dishonest politicians, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Red, if you want to believe this stuff go right ahead. "It will go nowhere, just as in the past when states have threatened succession." The signatures required compromise a very, very small percentage of the people. It's just a means of applying pressure, but for the rest of us it means nothing and it will go nowhere in the end. It's just the defeted still trying to do all they can to gain some leverage. Nothing more.

I can attest that this movement, relatively small right now it is gaining support. People are beginning tire of losing rights and having there way of life being trampled by the few.

Times might be lean for awhile but at least I would have personal fredom and personal fredom made this country ultra wealthy...history would repeat.

You would quickly be living in a state of failure and depression and dictatorship. Be careful what you wish for. You pull from that Union you also pull from the principles it was founded on and govern it. Take these away and what's left to protect you? Answer, a handful of distressed and desperate politicians and powerful and influential men. :icon_thumright:

Depression and dictatorship sounds kind of like a current events class.

Bigscoop, I am not advocating it. I wish this country could start healing and just go back to common sense. I didn't mean that to sound offensive.

Show me one state that has ever followed through with the threat? They're all still here. I wouldn't think I'd have to point that kind of proof out to you. :laughing7: Not my words, just very obvious fact. Now, this where they usually want to fall back on the civil war era.....heard it all before.

the question is not irrelevant. Power corrupts.

The problem with "secession", not "sucession" is: once you're out on your own or are you going to have little enclaves in non seceding areas or are ya gonna go for the big enchilada and grab Rhode Island? Studies have indicated that it's a minority that is thinking about doing this so if it were to happen be prepared for some very lean times, leaner than now, probably leaner than you can imagine.
happens, I'm going to the place where education and science hold sway. Don't know where that's at at this point but I know it's not in Oklahoma.

Not going to correct my spelling but thank you davest, i knew it didn,t look right. Important it is!.

I'm waiting for you to show me the proof that 24 or whatever number of states have threatened to secede from the union before,as you stated they did below.Thats the proof I'm looking for instead of you putting words in my mouth.

Wheres your proof that there would be failure and depression and dictatorship, was there failure and depression and dictatorship after the revolution? Your facts are far from obvious when no documentation exists supporting them.Youre grasping at straws trying in vain to prove yourself correct just as you did in the thread concerning your theory that most cops are good and that the standards for hiring cops werent being lowered.I supplied proof of what i stated in that thread, did you?

Reb's original question was about "your state". I didn't see anything about a confederation or union of states, 24 or other wise.
My state of Missouri would fare better on it's own than most. We have enough natural resources, minerals, power plants and agriculture to support us plus the B2 bomber base, that alone would give us a leg up. Not sure how we're going to guard our borders against those sneeky Iowaigeens or blood thirsty Red Legs from Kansas.
The whole thing should be moot. I thought we've already been through the question 150 yrs ago. I think it's like the spoiled little brat that bulls up and takes his ball and goes home when he doesn't get HIS way.
So your state go's it's own way and you don't like what the "Powers that Be" are doing? What are you going to do then?
But to answer the question, I'd move if I have to. I've got 26 yr's at the usps, I want my retirement.

People keep trying to make it a North/South issue, It is NOT a North/South issue, there are now petitions from all 50 states...... 7 states have received more than 25,000 signatures.........There were only 11 states in Dixie during the Civil War...

This issue is not a north/ south issue but rather an ideal divide. It is very important that people realize this. People are tired of this country being ruled by the ruling class....not acceptable.

ACTUALLY, it is a STATE'S RIGHT "issue" per the U.S. Constitution (LEGAL)... BUT! It is a State Government "thing" (whether to break from the union); the CITIZENS of that respective state must decide "yes or no" (agreement/disagreement). THAT was the ORIGINAL reason for the War Between the States (North vs South); THEN it became a "slavery issue", as the South was MOSTLY rural, agriculture based on tobacco/cotton... needing "slaves" to do the work. The North (THEN) was HIGHLY industrialized; only the SOUTH could meet the HIGH demand for raw tobacco, and MOSTLY raw cotton. TODAY, "The Conflict" is STRICTLY against a percieved "Nanny Gov't", with SOCIALIST tendencies; and POSSIBLY a form of racial discrimination. IMHO, ppl calling for separation from the union are WAR-MONGERS... and it IS becoming POLITICAL. SORRY!
