stockpicker: You are darn tootin we should have taken over Canada. If only the government had put more support behind the Lumberjack Wars we would have owned them by now. Then we could have put a ban on Labaat's and ended the madness.

DieselRam: You are 100% right on the assault rifle thing. Prior to coming on this forum I thought I knew what an assault rifle was. I got educated pretty quickly. It might have been a little harsh...but heh, I was glad for the information.

Stockpicker, they are trying to tie the term assault weapon to many guns that it does not apply to. Scares the public (many who do not know any different) into being for gun control. They are trying to take the guns and have been for a long time. Take away the second amendment and they can take the rest away as well.........

And that happen during the last "assault weapon" ban and all the manufacturers just changed their designs around a little but to skirt the law - correct.

You guys keep using what in logic:debate is called the "slippery slope". It's considered one of the most basic of the logic fallacies. "Regulate 30 round mags and next thing you know we will all be in prison camps". It's used by politicians and preachers alike to whip people up and to get them to stop using their minds. Be skeptical - fight the hype. NRA and big gun want your money and they will try and scare the hell out of you to get it. Good like fighting the special interest groups that run this country.

I agree it is difficult to fight the special interest groups, sierra club, moveon.org, code pink, and many others come to mind. If the NRA does not stand up for the second amendment, who will? It is for sure under attack. During the assault weapons ban crime actually went up.

As far as the slippery slope thing goes, let me just ask you one question. When has the govt. ever relinquished power instead of grabbing it?

That right but they were "banned" right? So why is this push for greater regulation anything new. I'm not saying its effective or right etc. but all this - we are under attack - civil war is coming - etc - mentality has just been whipped up to take your hard earned money. Firearm regs come and go ever week. Don't be mindless pawns to special interests trying to get at your wallets. And the NRA isn't standing up for the second amendment, they are standing up to take your money - they are big big biz like any other. What do there execs make??

With every administration and part switch, it comes and it goes. Who ever would have thought the gov would have given up power after FDR when the gov controlled just about all of society and all sorts of rights were stripped away.

I don't like the current administration - or frankly the last Few for that matter. But folks are getting manipulated and its too bad. This is why nothing gets done because each side is portrayed by other as complete whack jobs - doesn't do this country any good and it distracts us from the real issues like getting this economy moving and folks back to work!!

Just my 2 cents.

Crispin, I can see where you come from on the slippery slope argument. However I do think it is a very relevent argument when discussing the govt. We all know how power hungry they are.

I believe this administration is pure evil. Obama clearly does not like the constitution, or this country for that matter. You are partially right on each party making the other out to be whack jobs, problem is the democrats do this very effectively, and much more often than the republicans. But you are completely right about getting people back to work. But again this administration is not interested in that, but rather they are more interested in adding more people to welfare, and disability.

One might say he spent like a democrat on new social programs like meds for all the old people, fought expansive wars and cut taxes on top of it. Dem / rep, both incompetent and ruining the country. One not really any better than the other now a days. I definitely think we need some more real viable political parties IMO.

The social programs he spent on has very little to do with old people. He spends a lot on HIS lifestyle, expansive govt., unemployment, disability, acorn, giving guns to mexican drug cartels, propaganda, Obama phones, school food programs, cash for clunkers, and many many more. We need a third party for sure TEA PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those were all the tax cuts that were set to expire with the fiscal cliff that just got extended. He cut the top tax rate from 39.6 to 35 percent etc etc.

Again, I'm a republican at heart but I'm for prudent spending and balanced budgets. Both sides been spending like drunken sailors with a blank checkbook!! IMO republicans need to stop wasting their time on fringe social/religious issues that are out of touch with the general population and get back to being the party of financial/fiscal responsibility.

I agree on the spending, that is why I fully support the Tea Party. The tax cuts all should have been made permanent for EVERYONE. I hate this current administrations attack on success.:angry4:
Maybe Obama, Pelosi and Reid should break off their threesome they have been having :3some: ..........

Good conversation. What money's are to be used if not enough tax revenue is brought in ? Social security ? Social Security is the peoples money. It's not a handout. It's been turned into a cash cow for the Government. We should have been just as upset about them stealing from it as trying to take our guns. This Country is going to turn into a Somalia real quick if an un organized attack occurs on the US Tyrants. There are a lot of radical political groups hiding behind this second amendment issue we're dealing with. Again, not all. Finding a hole to impose their beliefs and ideals on everyone.
I think what really bothers me in the end. Is the failure of this nation and the pitting of brother against brother, Party against party. I guess it's my "conspiracy theory" of a terrorist attack from within or something more evil. Divide and conquer. We all have our reasons or hunches. Hold your guns tight. Hold your loved ones tighter.
Rick

One more thing. Why is it o.k. for one to capitalize on their ideas, business, ect ? And It is not to capitalize on ones labor ?
My answer. In modern day, Greed.

stockpicker,

Be careful what you ask for.....the last time a bunch of crazy Canucks went to Washington...in 1812 they burned it down and had a wienie roast.....we can be a mischievous bunch when we put our minds to it....of course the Labatt's beer we have to drink doesn't help either...lol.

Regards + HH

Bill

Just a little bit of my New England sarcasm!! Making fun of the conspiracy nutters out there. Its actually funny that there are so many out there posters on here that a post like mine can be taken seriously. UN is about incompetent as it gets. I'd worry more that you Canucks would take over than the UN!!!
