The incident started around 1:30 a.m. when the 37-year-old man ran a red light on 8th Avenue in Homestead, with his mother in the car.

They shot the people inside the cars?!?!

What ever happened to taking their tires out?

I cant imagine how safe it is for 5 officers to be firing at a moving vehicle through the city.

The police nowadays shoot first and ask questions later. I agree the guy shouldn't have run from the cops, but in this case, he had already crashed his car. The pursuit was over. His mother, who may or may not have been a participant, was also shot. She was probably an innocent victim in this matter and didn't deserve a bullet. If anyone needs gun control, it's the cops. Too many Barney Fife's running around these days.

Yes and if I caught the story correctly, all 5 police were off duty,
which may mean they were at the club, & carrying.
maybe not illegal, & maybe mandatory.
but obviously showing off.

is there an operating a weapon under the influence statute for off duty police especially ?

Didn't ANYONE even read the CBS news report...? Cops were ON-DUTY; driver was wanted for a crime, elsewhere; and using his car... AS A WEAPON! It IS unfortunate about his mother... BUT! The guy was 37; SHE couldn't even control him... read the damn REPORT!

The chase eventually stopped when five off-duty officers working detail at the nearby bars shot at the car and it slammed into another parked car near 13th Street on the South Side.

working detail how ? testing taste of the Molson ? :laughing7:

so that's the story they come up with after the fact ?

Remember the ending of "Beverley Hills cop" ?
& how everyone pumped their chests in their minds ?
(the cops in that still broke the law)

not saying it's happening in this case,
just asking, can we really trust that report ?

It is a CBS NEWS report; the cops were ON-DUTY "working details" at nearby bars; MAYBE, NOT for the PD... BUT!
Gotta define "working details" by PD terms... AND! Whatever the politicies & procedures of the PD are... DON'T know what "Intel" they had on that guy; coulda been "armed & dangerous".

Yea I'd like to know how someone can be off duty & working Detail ?

off duty should mean not being paid.

so any detail would be free or on someone else's dime,

& to me off duty means Off duty

& I still see stopped when five off-duty officers working detail
in the CBS report above

Didn't watch "vid"; are they in uniforms? I read where Mass. State Police were Construction Worker Flaggers on "detailed duty". WHOO! NOT sure if it was on "company time"...
