Proof: Armed Citizens Make Good Government

The 2nd Amendment is in place to discourage dictators and protect the Bill of Rights and Constitution.

The Founding Fathers agree: an armed population makes good government. Numerous quotes from the revolutionary era make their intent extremely clear — that individuals were meant to keep and bear arms for the protection of the country and the defense of its Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The 2nd Amendment is in place to discourage dictators and protect the Bill of Rights and Constitution.

Proof: Armed Citizens Make Good Government - YouTube!

The Preamble to the Bill of Rights explicitly states that these amendments to the Constitution were put in place to restrain the federal government and discourage abuse. Ratified Dec. 15, 1791, it reads:

“THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution. “

Meanwhile, history has shown that disarmed populations and dictators always go hand in hand, with abusers and seekers of power preferring a people unable to stand up for their rights and easy to trample and dominate.

Our birthright as Americans is at stake: if we don’t stand up to defend the 2nd Amendment, we stand to let all our other precious rights slip away, from freedom of speech on down.

Red - how do you reconcile your thoughts on the " founding fathers ideals" with the Whisky Rebellion? Very quickly our "government of the people" rolled in troops and artillery and CRUSHED poor farmer-citizens just looking to make a little shine because they wouldn't pay taxes to the new federal government.

What do you think those farmer-citizens thought of their new government.

Lets not create a mythology of a pure / superior government of the mythological founding fathers that is being trampled by more recent administrations.

The federal government had strong armed and controlled people from the very beginning. If they did not, you would not have a government - you would have anarchy.

Not condoning it, but we need to deal with historical fact and not create an American mythology that never existed.

Best to all.

I like that Wikipedia. Read below - sounds very familiar to what's going on today. Different issues but same fight?? Best to all.

The Whiskey Rebellion, or Whiskey Insurrection, was a tax protest in the United States beginning in 1791, during the presidency of George Washington. Farmers who used their leftover grain and corn in the form of whiskey as a medium of exchange were forced to pay a new tax. The tax was a part of treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton's program to increase central government power, in particular to fund his policy of assuming the war debt of those states which had failed to pay. The farmers who resisted, many war veterans, contended that they were fighting for the principles of the American Revolution, in particular against taxation without local representation, while the Federal government maintained the taxes were the legal expression of the taxation powers of Congress.

Throughout counties in Western Pennsylvania, protesters used violence and intimidation to prevent federal officials from collecting the tax. Resistance came to a climax in July 1794, when a U.S. marshal arrived in western Pennsylvania to serve writs to distillers who had not paid the excise. The alarm was raised, and more than 500 armed men attacked the fortified home of tax inspector General John Neville. Washington responded by sending peace commissioners to western Pennsylvania to negotiate with the rebels, while at the same time calling on governors to send a militia force to enforce the tax. With 13,000 militia provided by the governors of Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Washington rode at the head of an army to suppress the insurgency. The rebels all went home before the arrival of the army, and there was no confrontation. About 20 men were arrested, but all were later acquitted or pardoned.

The Whiskey Rebellion demonstrated that the new national government had the willingness and ability to suppress violent resistance to its laws. The whiskey excise remained difficult to collect, however. The events contributed to the formation of political parties in the United States, a process already underway. The whiskey tax was repealed after Thomas Jefferson's Republican Party, which opposed Hamilton's Federalist Party, came to power in 1800.

The only problem stockpicker is that there is quite a few more than 500 pissed off people in the country.A lot of whats going on isnt really about taxes, its about government corruption.Whats going to happen when just 10% of the gun owners get pissed off enough, that equals out to 8 to 10 million people.

But the population of the country was a lot lot smaller back then. But don't you find it interesting that the pres sent an army against its own citizens right after they revolted against the tyrannical British government for taxing them??

Doesn't look like Washington was a big fan of citizens standing up for their rights vs the federal government?? That certainly make geo Washington as much like hitler, saddam or Stalin than any other president right?? Sending armed troops against its own citizens over some shine???

Not sure but it would seem that this dispels a lot of these statements about the founding fathers and their thoughts on the freedoms of individuals vs the federal government. If I am misinterpreting history please let me know.

What is worse than sending the army against your own citizens?? Isn't that everyone's worse fear - government sending the troops out to suppress the population? How can there be anything worse?

with ASSAULT WEAPONS.

Assault weapons are capable of full auto fire. You also need a class 3 permit to own one.It is also against the law to hunt with one.
