jeff,

You've got to get up to snuff on your history.....Lachine was discovered in the late 1600's by the Sieur de LaSalle....
unfortunately the vessel they used at the time couldn't get pass the rapids nearby.....so that's where they made camp and settled.

btw part of his mandate from the King of France at the time was to find a westerly trade route to China ergo Lachine
is the French name for China.....so a bit of colonial era joke ended up as the name of the city I currently live in.

See how smart you'll get if you follow my lead grasshopper...lol.

Remember Hop Along Casidy. I remember sorting coke bottles and pumping gas at the local store and the owner would pay me with a couple of packs of lucky strikes. I was about 13. I quit smoking 14 years ago.

I remember using the dipper hanging beside the well instead of coming inside for a drink. When staying inside all day was a punishment for kids. Only getting to chose the tv channel on saturday morning and that wasnt for long because who wanted to stay inside...lol.

Folks,

Here's another one some of you folks might remember if you came from humble beginnings.....I can remember having bread pudding as a supper when the pantry was pretty bare at the end of the week.....or home made dumplings with gravy....among other things....

Not rich but we never went hungry....heck I still like some of those simplistic meals today....even though I can afford the
more expensive stuff....I guess you'd call it being self sufficient in today's world.
........................................................................................................................................................... 111-1 profileblk.jpg

Humble beginnings! Yes and no. I was born the son of a millionaire genius. He was worth about $10M In the 40's but he had one character flaw, Gambling which surfaced when one of his employees took him to the horse-races. He bet $100 on a $100 to $1 shot and it came in first. Something clicked in his head and in the next few years he fed the $10M to the ponies. We wound up eating ketchup sandwiches, bread pudding and Franko-American mac from the can cold because the power was cut off. I was about 10 at the time and had been going to a military academy delivered by the shofer in the Cad. Public school was a rude awakening. We survived and I had my first job by 12 delivering 300 papers, morning, evening and Sunday. So you see, I started at the top dropped to the bottom and am now somewhere in the middle. And believe it or not, I still like bread pudding. lol Frank

Frank, when I grew up we were very poor. Living in campgrounds, cars, friends and relatives houses even a ex-methlab! I can remember going with my dad to the food bank......sometimes old memories like this are best left way back in our heads and not recalled much......And sometimes old memories are really good to recall, like the first time.......if you know what I mean :tongue3::laughing7:

Frank,
I can relate to what you wrote. 'Back in the day', our dessert would be either warm milk with rice and sugar (the best!!) or warm milk with sugar and cooked lima beans (ugh !)--straight from our War Garden plot.

Hay I have seen both sides of life so I feel good in the middle. I have this theory that once you reach the top like a movie star model or sports figure, the thrill, the essence, or the meaning of life dissipates from you. At that point you turn to excessive drinking or drugs for a new meaning, but it isn't there. Look at that country singer that just checked out. She had everything and nothing. There are exceptions like Reba. She has everything and is content with it. Hope life holds up for her. Frank

I remember FIRECRACKERS, that is the real thing. We use to through hammerheads down the street drains. Yes I know this was bad. The methane explosion sometimes blew the sewer lids off for a block around and the rats vacated rapidly. We use to have 4" crackers that were about the same as 1/4 stick of dynamite. We use to shoot torpedoes with our slingshots. We also spread them on the road and watched the cars pull over looking for the flat. We use to have roman candle and bottle rocket battles. ****** yes, we were bad, but we all survived****** Frank
