Proud to be an American, you know that's right.

Sometimes problems of your day might overwhelm you,
Think of the mountains, that's what I do!

The "Bear Story."

Wednesday evening, back at the camp after a modest "Day Hike," I was preparing to make my evening campfire....

ZAP!

I got tagged on the left chest by an obviously blind hornet.

The pain was immediate and intense.
I sat down and wondered for the next hour if I was allergic to hornet venom as I have never been hit by one before.

I then made my fire and had dinner.

I keep a plastic grocery bag hanging from my tailgate for trash and I had a full bag of trash I had picked up upon arriving the day before of the idiots who leave their trash. Sheesh!

The fire eventually burns down about 1:00 am and I have put the cooler in the truck and turn in for the night.
Yeah, the sting STILL hurts~ I have a hard time sleeping....

Friends, I usually sleep lightly in the mountains anyway and the pain made it easy...

About 6:30 am I hear the empty soda can and soup can in the trash bag rattle!

I sit up and grab my little flashlight and shine it out of the window of my tent.

The trash bag is swinging but I see nothing near.

I quickly put on my shoes, grab my camera and machete and step out side.

A quick scan of the area, uphill showed me all I needed to see....

21-IMG_1143.JPG

I'm guessing about 30 yards away. Maybe 200 pounds.

Hmm. That's 2 strikes against me already: Outweighed and I have poorer night vision.

SO.....
Let's make some noise.
A LOT OF NOISE!

Like I said,
The Bear lived. And so did I.

Hope All are Enjoying the Weekend!

Best Wishes Always,

Scott

In the above narrative, there was a fatality.

Can you name the "Victim?"

Say,

Isn't this the thread I posted about a "hand-carved" guitar Bridge? Of Walnut?
Help me out, OV....

Well,

Tossing memories into the dumpster of reality in the driveway today and going through "junk,"

I FOUND IT!

(Never got it finished, though....)

Many things were rediscovered; Many memories relived.

But,

Some chit was an easy toss!

Dang!

Go camping for a few days and when I come back my computer world is screwed.

Perhaps I should be less dependent of computers....

How?

Anyway,

Here we go again, Y'all...

SHEESH!

I'm so "computer stupid!"

Gonna work this out right here.
Me and you, Computer.

You DO know that I feed you, right?

Yes. That's right....
Where do you think that you get your power?

That's right.

I don't need you. But, you need me.

Shall we try this again, Computer?

"Don't need no computer in the Mountains."

There. I said it.

Deny and refute or agree.
State your position.

(Magnetic ink" reference...?)

I know of "Magnetic Ink" and have printed Financial documents of many uses....
For a company called,
"Rocky Mountain Bank Note Company."

Late 70's-early 80's?
I learned the printing trade fresh out of the Army.

Miele V-50 Letterpress...

QualityLetterpress5.8.10-4.jpg

It was a fast day when I had to run two presses because someone was ill and couldn't be present.
I learned how to operate and maintain many different presses, including offset presses like the Multilith 1250.

I also learned everything about a Mergenthaler Linotype machine.

linotype_enl-93f286ab0cfd8f9551294dba38a8a3040819b382.jpg

And the "Heidelberg Windmill" press.
heidelbergwindmill.jpg

I still to this day hold the personal one day production record at RMBN Co.......
(To the best of my knowledge.....)

And I started the job in the "Mail" department, tossing finished check packages into canvas mailbags of the Zip codes of our area to take to the post office.

One day, a press operator was ill.
A Monday.
7:00 AM.

Mondays are the "catch-up" day due to Postal service....

Anyway, after only a week on my new job, tossing packages into mailbags, I showed my ability.
That day I was given a raise and was now a press operator!
Within a Month, I was assigned as "Press Operator Trainer."

Hmmm...
Seems that John Harland was finally able to successfully buy out RMBN Co. in the early 90's.....

The timing of presses is as crucical as the timing of sewing machines.
And exact placement of printed sheets MUST be accurate as needed on NCR (no carbon required) jobs.
I've printed 6 part NCR with perfect registration. Used a 6-skip numbering machine. Temperamental little buggar, it was....

I hear the rumble of a storm's approach.
I feel the wind pick up...

My locksmith Friend returned from Germany yesterday and brought me a few cigars and some African whole bean coffee!

Tomorrow morning, with the first sip of the coffee,
I will close my eyes and may find myself in Deutschland once again, if for just a fleeting moment.....

HA! Computer!

"I only shot off your trigger finger.
Sorry about both hands.

I couldn't remember if you're left handed :dontknow:

Seems that so many are nowadays.........8-)
Quit crying.
Now, get outta my town and never come back,
You electronic malfeasance!

I too have returned from the mountains with some funny stories and some enlightenment. I'll leave you tonight with a quick funny one, pics later. My boys and I were riding a Kawasaki mule and I found myself on a Razor with my great nephews 17 year old friend. Hardly any roads. He says " are you afraid of speed?" I said " Nope" in seconds on a 1 lane dirt road I glanced over we were slipping and sliding around every curve. I yelled" hey where's the seat belts...... Thinking I somehow missed some sort of 5 point racing harness....... He looks at me as our back tires slide over an embankment " don't matter....... They don't work" reminds me of the last thing most Rednecks like me say right before they die " hey y'all watch this" hehe pics later. I revisited where I parked my Chevy blazer I told everybody about when I was a homeless 16 year old. Place has grown up a bit, but still saw a few rabbits, squirrels, fish and 3 flocks of turkeys!!!!
