Someone asked me what plans I had for Memorial Day weekend.

“I’m going to mainly rest this weekend,” I said. “But I’m also going to spend some time in church, on my knees, thanking God for those who have died in service to our country, because that is what Memorial Day is about.”

Memorial Day has become cause for jolly family picnics, maybe a little boating and fishing, or working out in the garden. In many areas of the country, it is the unofficial start of summer, with schools letting out and vacations being planned.

And there is nothing wrong with any of that. These days, any time for families to be together is precious.

But let’s also leave time to recall the purpose: Memorial Day is a day set aside – an official federal holiday – to remember and honor U.S. military service men and women killed in battle, those whose sacrifice has allowed the American ideal to perpetuate and stand as a beacon of hope around the world.

[h=2]In Flanders Fields[/h] In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.
By Dr John McCrae, 1915

Sometimes our Vets have been places, seen and done things
that cannot escape their dreams once they return to Civilian life.
Things that they cannot or will not discuss.
Me included.

Memorial Day and Veterans Day is always Special to me. Because of Friends no longer here,
and Friends who need help.

I will always be there for my Vet Brothers and Sisters to help.
As I'm sure that they will help me.

It's a "Brotherhood" don't you see?
(I type this as tears run down my face....)

Hope all have a safe Memorial day!

God Bless our Vets and Active Service Members and God Bless AMERICA!

Never thought I'd share this memory, but......

Back in the late 70's, I had moved to Augusta, Georgia.

I ended up there after getting out of the Army and because of a Friend I had served with.

Anyway, one night we found ourselves parked on Broad Street, ready to go into a club called "The Whipping Post."

Some quick shots and a fatty first.

The doobie was nearly finished when there was a loud rap on my window.

I looked to my right and a Cop was standing outside.

I quickly swallowed the evidence and rolled down the window.

Cop says, "I know what you boys are about. Just don't do it on my street."

I said, "Yes, Sir!"
As the smoke wafted out of the window.....

My Friend and I then went in and enjoyed the live concert of Greg....
Paid a minimal "cover price" to enter.....I think $5....:icon_scratch:

Best,

Scott

This is carried over from a different thread; however, I think it is important enough to start its own thread. For those of you who did or are not following the previously mentioned thread...this is basically a list of people that are not worried about a government takeover. So far, here is the list...

Crispin
Worldtalker
Rebel -KGC
Bill from Lachine

I will update the list periodically. Take note that the list order denotes membership tenure. If you want to be on the list post here.

What about an Alien ( from Space ) takeover or Attack.?

Does the US have an IRON MAN ?
