The manufacturing jobs went away because of crushing over the top environmental laws, regulations and high taxes.

Manufacturing jobs have moved from country to country chasing the cheapest labor. First they moved from the northeast states to the south and then overseas. Even china is now losing manufacturing jobs to Bangladesh, Philippines and Vietnam.

Skilled manufacturing is actually starting to return to the US as company begin to "insource" as logistic costs are outweighing cheaper labor.

I can go on. This was a big trend in investing that we monitored very very closely.

Actually the US is facing a huge shortage of skilled welders if anyone is looking for a good job.

the manufacturing jobs went away because the owners could move them to countries where environmental and labor rights were non existant. Just today Walmart was fined 82 million dollars for pouring poisons onto lands and down sewers where they will affect the water the rest of our lives. Do you guys really want a world without regulations to prevent that? Anybody know the ratio of CEO salary to workers in 1970? Anybody know what that same ratio is today?

Stock, they created a billion dollars of value out of what? I respect your financial views but could you explain what derivatives are and how they work for us, seriously, I don't quite grasp how someone could set something up to fail, insure it, actively work toward it failing and when it does, collect a profit on the failure. (Did I say that erroneously?)

The rest of the comments aren't even worth replying to.

Let me know what you would like to know and ill try and answer.

I'm trying to figure out why the job creators aren't creating any jobs, worldwide. Todays tampabaytimes says that the big banks have made 40 billion dollars in profit for the first quarter of the year, yet employment does not seem to be very far up on the agenda.

Question 2: What item of value is produced by the financial sector.

Question 3: What is the LIBOR scandal about?

Question 4: Derivatives, what are they, how do they work and why did they have such an impact on both the economy of the U.S. and the world.

Question 5: Do those guys that make 10 million a year really live in a separate universe than we peons?:tongue3:

GMD, what I meant was. It's very hard to answer things like, "Obama did it, or It's Hillerys fault". I apologize to you.

Davest, the financial sector provides a lot of value. Liquidity is one form.

I'm so confused. One person says the government should create work so people have to earn food stamps, the other guy says the government shouldn't create jobs but should let folks starve make them steal.

One of those guys says private industry will bring the U.S.of A back to dominance but neglects to see that the manufacturing base that created the middle class, along with unions, is now gone. And that is where the real money came from during the 50s, 60s and early 70s. Once a certain presidents economic plan came in you could say good bye to all that.
If you thought the moneyed interests are going to do anything for the good old U.S. of A. you better take a look at the TransPacificPartnership and get ready to kiss your wage good bye.

Riddle me this: Does anyone really work hard enough to earn a Million Dollars an hour? WHat do they do?

The problem with your logic is that you apparently only read every other word of anyone's post.

Food stamps and welfare have made it too easy for lazy people to avoid working.

There are people who will live like animals in filth and squalor ... so long as they don't have to work.

There are people who will live on food stamps and welfare ... so long as they don't have to work.

I know, I see them every day. They sit at home and "play" all day. Cards, video games, chasing tail ... it's the way they choose to live, not the only way they can live.

Why do I say that? Because I used to be one of them. I have been on that side of the fence. You get more food stamps than are needed to feed you for the month, so you can always find someone in the neighborhood that will barter with you. With the old literal stamps, they would buy them. Today, you go to the store and fill someone's grocery list. Those are usually the food stamp people buying expensive cuts of meat. They are bartering those stamps for a new game, cigarettes, pot, etc.

There are people who, if the benefits required work, would decide that the pay wasn't enough and start looking for real work.

Otherwise, they will never make finding work their vocation.

the constitution was written by agrarians...no one went hungry, when there w2as
has nothing to do with money, mine or what you have.

Are you taking hallucinogens?

They majority of the country's citizens were agrarians at the time, but the framers of the constitution - while some had farming interests - they were not farmers.

Many were businessmen.

Hmm... Maybe reading comprehension. "Framers" is not the same as "Farmers".

Here is the data from the site you cited (actually found at http://www.usconstitution.net/constframedata.html):

So the question is: Where are the farmers???

Actually, only one of the listed people was a farmer. The rest were mostly soldiers, lawyers and businesmen (merchants are businessmen)

As we used to say in the trucking industry: "If'n you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch."

1 and 2 banks provide the grease on the wheel of the economy. Unless everyone is going to pay cash for everything a bank is needed by both people and businesses to borrow money from. In the end a bank is a simple biz. They lend money out at a higher interest than what they pay to get the money ( the spread). In the end banks don't create jobs but they lend money to businesses will grow and hopefully create jobs. In the end people need to spend/buy in order for jobs to be created. After decades of spending like drunken sailors people are paying down debt etc as opposed to mass consuming.

3 libor is the name of an integrate rate (like the prime rate or fed funds rate that you might have heard about before). The rate is set by a number of the big global banks. The scandal is that these same banks were also making bets on which way libor would go at the same time that they had in hand in setting the rate. And with a few of the banks colluding together it was easy money.

Ill take 4 and 5 later. People have written huge books on these subjects but ill try and condense.
