Ted Cruz introduces bill to defund Obamacare

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, along with 17 other Senate Republicans, has introduced a bill to fully defund Obamacare in the wake of the recent string of bad news surrounding the law.

"The Administration's recent announcement to delay the onerous and unpopular employer mandate until after the 2014 election, coupled with its announcement to delay income and health status eligibility requirements in favor of an honor system for the most expensive entitlement for our generation, confirms what has been obvious from the start--this law is a colossal mistake," Cruz said in a press release.

The Defund Obamacare Act of 2013 would deauthorize all future appropriations for the bill and rescind all prior appropriations that were used to fund Obamacare.

Cruz is joined by Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ga., who introduced companion legislation in the House. Graves has introduced similar legislation before, in March of 2013, and also in the 111th and 112th congresses.

"We must seize the moment and permanently delay the entire law," Graves wrote in his own press release. "Congress can do this. We control the purse strings and can protect taxpayers from funding Obamacare. Businesses have their delay and the special interests have their waivers. Let's not leave working families or anyone else on the tracks for this train wreck."

Along with previous bills to defund the health care law, House Republicans have also voted 37 times to repeal the law entirely.

Crossing my fingers for Cruz. And the rest of America, whether they understand or not.

I think that if the republicans want to assure themselves of a victory in 2014, they might do well to take a different tack IMMEDIATELY:

  1. Introduce legislation to DISALLOW ALL EXEMPTIONS allowed by the president. It stands to reason that since this is the greatest thing since sliced bread, EVERYONE should have the advantage of being covered by it, even the president's buddies. In fact, make it law that the president on down must be covered by this health care ONLY.
  2. Introduce legislation to OVERRIDE any plans by the president to delay the implementation of either the EMPLOYER MANDATE or the INDIVIDUAL MANDATE. If it's such a great idea, why in the heck should we have to wait?
  3. Do BOTH of the above with the further stipulation that after 1 year from full implementation we hold a referendum where THE PEOPLE vote to decide whether we keep it or abolish it completely.
  4. They probably couldn't but, I would like to see a clause that - should it be voted down - removed every politician who voted in favor of, was involved in the design of or even the conception of this bill, should be hanged on the mall as a warning to future socialists. Nah, they couldn't do that. Maybe they could just remove them all from office and create a class that would be responsible to remediate all damages they have inflicted on the republic.
