I would think as long as mice don't chew wiring, it should be fine. That is, as long as there hasn't been any fuel run through it.

marvel mystery oil in the cylinder...turn the engine over by hand a few times...a few squirts is all...to keep the rings loose an the cylinder wet...no rust buildup
change crank case oil to something less viscous...
clean plug and refill crankcase with recommended oil before starting.

I had a Saturn at 90k, sounding like a sewing machine. Did an oil change adding Marvel Mystery oil and it quietened right down.

At 147k, my daughter totalled it. But it still ran like new....

That stuff is GREAT !!!

Thanks. Just pull the spark plug, add a little marvel's and turn it over a few times. I can handle that. I'm just wondering if I waited too long to do it. It has been in my storage locker a long time. If I had somewhere to keep it at my house i'd probably just run it once a month or so, but I am hurting for space. I don't want to keep it outside.

Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne chased me out of that neck of the woods. Generators stolen while running...
walking catfish in my living room, a month without electric in a cess-pool. Slept for a week on a pool table
in the local bar with pistol in hand.

Keep the generator indoors and when the time comes...under armed guard.

I was actually more worried about a hurricane out there, but, thanks for the heads up!
Guess I better sort the ammo, stock up on beans, my generator finally vibrated apart after about 15 years(I got no complaints, $400 bucks, 15 yrs, that was a good deal!) I have always wanted one of them stirling generators, but, looks like the quiet little Honda, may just be the ticket.

Does tnet have a ham app? :laughing7:

One last tidbit of info. Check the gas line from tank to carb. They rot! Frank... 111-1 profile.jpg

Not that I know of. I was going through my storage unit the other day straightening things out to make more room and I saw the generator that I bought back in 07 (I think it was) for a storm that didn't happen. Anyway, it's been sitting in the box in storage since, never used and I got to wondering.

Diggum,

I would think you need to be concerned with the carb drying out. Not sure if that would apply on a generator but I know if a car sits too long, the carb often needs to be rebuilt.

Don't use gasoline that includes ethanol. It ruined my new Stihl chainsaw, needs new carb @ $150. A couple buddies have already had new carbs put on theirs too.

Also, an electrician told me to fire up the generator at least once a month and let it run for 10-15 min, to burn off any moisture on the circuit boards, mainly the diodes.
