Can't do it. Take a drink, the lead hits the a$$, and the day is history.
Too much to do....

I drink whenever I can find Guinness on tap. Never too early too start when meeting up with a friend I haven't seen in a while. Never a good time when wife and child are around. I never turn down a drink to friendship. Nothing soothes sore wounds like sharing a common lubrication.

You all surely already know that nobody here who has a drink for breakfast, before noon, etc, is ever gonna say it here to the world.

McKinney, my brother-in- law and I went deer hunting. This was in about 1982. We spent the night in the pickup camper in bedrolls. It was cold. Got up the next morning just before daybreak. I grabbed a package of cookies and a container of water. He grabbed a beer. He got out to relieve himself, took a swallow of beer and gagged. He took another swallow and gagged again. The third time, he up-chucked what he had already drank. Finished his 'business', zipped, and got back into the pickup camper. He told me he really needed to stop the beer until after he had eaten something. I don't know if he stopped drinking before eating something, but later he was told that his liver was almost gone and his stomach wasn't going to take the beer much longer. So he switched to straight whiskey. About 6 months later he died at the age of 54.

Crown and Coke...or Knob Creek and coke. Usually late afternoon or later at a bar.

Really like that Knob Creek....don't plan on sending any back to Booker T.

What time you start drinking? --- First day of winter, until first day of spring :D

Nobody minds a man having a morning eye-opener and it's OK to have a bracer about 10 A.M. and a couple of drinks before lunch. A few beers on a hot afternoon keeps a man healthy, or at least happy. And, of course everyone drinks at a cocktail hour. A man can't be criticized for having wine with his dinner, a liqueur afterwards, and a highball or two during the evening. But this business of sip, sip, sip, all day long has got to stop!

In a bizarre, sick way one must appreciate a man who knows his fate. No doubt that alcoholism is a disease... There are worse ways to go then liver failure.

Nah, not so! Foul ball cried the umpire. I have had many a mimosa prior to 8am when the time was right. Had more then a few Bloody Marys when I had to regroup in the wee AM hours. I remember taking an overnight flight from NYC to Dubai. Arrived at 4am their time with nothing but a backpack. Took me three hours to get through customs and security. Brother, they hate Americans. Tried to use the restroom and found nothing but a flooded room with a bidet. Couldn't buy a piece of toilet paper if your life depended on it. Sat down with my brother at the bar to order and got ignored for thirty minutes. I was desperate. Decided I would go down swinging if I HAD to. I was going to get a Bloody Mary or I was going to get arrested. Got my drink around 8am, totally worth the fuss. Transferred flights two hours later to Durban, South Africa. Don't remember what time zone I was in or what time of day but kept drinking until we got to the hotel and passed out...

I hope to never be skooled in 'the ways to go'

I have helped many a soul pass into the afterlife. Not because I wanted to but because it was an act of Mercy. I am no angel nor do I pretend to be divine. However, I will claim that I do "God's work." I preach and swear by the concept of "Maximizing quality of life with a minimum amount of sedation." If those words mean nothing to you then I pray they never do. Judge not lest ye be judged. "If God is on our side, who is against us?"

That is a job that definetly takes a special kind of person. I could never imagine having to deal with something as trying as helping another many people pass on. It is a job that is reserved for a special soul in my opinion. The suffering of a person is not only fealt by the person suffering but also the individuals trying to ease that suffering. That is something I am sure sticks with you long after that person has passed on. For your kindness and mercy i'm sure someday you will be rewarded.

Thank you for the kind words pong. You don't know how much that means to me right now. Again, thank you.

I am honored to do my work. Yes, I feel the suffering, most often times I feel it long after the person is gone. I feel the suffering of the family and take it on myself to relieve them of the burden. When a family obviously wants to relieve suffering but nobody wants to take responsibility for it I will step in and say, "It is my decision...I am doing this. I am not giving you a choice." They know me well enough by that time to know that I always give them a choice, but in those final moments it relieves them of guilt. "The doctor made the decision, not me." There are so many people that carry guilt from the burden of making the right decision

So yes, it sticks with me and each and every one absorbs a part of me. One I gladly give but cannot replace. I will continue to do God's work as long as he wills me to do so. I seek no reward nor compensation. A simply thank you from the family is all I need to give me the strength to carry on. We all have the opportunity to do God's work. I am blessed to know my place so clearly.

Crispin, I commend you on your work. I'm sorry that you have seen so many pass. I, in some ways, feel blessed to have never seen anyone pass except close family members, namely my dad, mom, daughter, and wife. I was just outside the room when my sis passed. Not being there when it happens, though doesn't relieve the sorrow of one's close relatives passing.
At 72 years old, I've been to more funerals than I can count. Close relatives, close friends, school mates, and neighbors that I have been close to. I'm sure there are many others who have been around deaths much more than I have. After stating that, I'll sat that it was stated earlier that we/I am not the center of the universe; but sometimes I feel the statement may be wrong, at least for a few moments at certain times.

ALWAYS REMEMBER --we all gotta go sometime --the rich ,the poor , the beautiful and the ugly of looks all get the same fate , your gonna die one day -- so its not the dying that's sets us apart from one another --but rather the living of our lives and how we cope with life's pains and troubles that comes our way -- sadly there are those that can not drink "a bit" -so -they need to avoid drinking all together (the same with pain pills as well normally speaking) -- but for the vast lot of us a bit of booze or a pain pill can help cope with our bumps and bruises that life throws our way -- use your meds and booze wisely and they can be your friends --remember booze and drugs make great servants but lousy masters...
