Nothing wrong wit quick "memos."...
And if I am not mistaken,.. I think I brought that point up.

Face book is nothing more than glorified Myspace...
It too will become yesterdays news.

I get no signal here, but pay around $250 a month to cover my daughter and I = thru Verizon. Contract ends in August, and my daughters are on their own.

I agree it's becoming a problem with society. Hopefully a fad but I think we're in it for the long haul. I almost got addicted multiple times to the smart phones myself. I remember when texting was a brand new thing but I did and do like it. I think we're in for some trouble in the long haul with all the kids becoming addicted at such a young age. They won't be able to handle reality.

I have a trac phone that I had to get for work, because if I didn't have one, I wouldn't know what was going on at work. I was basically left out in the cold, because all communication there is with texting. So I was pretty much forced to get one.

I'm not on Facebook, or Instagram, or any other social media sites, (oops, except this one)

I personally can't wait until something happens where the cell service is down. Maybe that will open the eyes of the generation that lives on this technology. They won't have a clue what to do with themselves.

And God help us if Facebook takes a dump.

Good Thread there AARC!

There is a big difference between being "social"...
And being "consumed".

Believe me.
Kids and people are addicted.
If you do not see it.
?

Everyone has addictions. The question is, is it harmful. I like smart phones.

I own a smart phone as well...
I like it...
Just don't stay glued to it.

I rarely use it for internet... I have a real screen for that which I enjoy more.
Nothing wrong with people using this tech...

JUST DONT DO IT BESIDE ME IN TRAFFIC !

FROM A PHONE...

They make jokes on T.V, about it... to show "they / you" are "not alone"... sending subliminal messages "that its ok" to be addicted to a media device.
Commercials about "constant connectivity"... Or speeds of... are never ending.
We see people walking or driving while texting... oblivious to everything else... killing others and themselves by doing so in accidents...

Is it just me ? or does anyone else think the World and its masses has been tricked into believing that this is a "absolute necessity" to live our lives.

IMO... people are lost... in all the "hype"... and this life of "sharing every detail of ones life on social media"... is "All show... And no go".
No one really... deep down inside... gives two craps if you ate a bagel this morning and if it was good or not...
Or what you did ... Or what you did not do.

See... it does not effect them... like it did you.
But it seems these days that everyone thinks "they are the exception to the rule".
Sorry to be the one to break the news.
But since the beginnings of mankind... this is the natural "order" of things.

My grandfather told me once...
"when you reach my age (80's at the time)... You will be able to count all of your real true friends on one hand... and you may even have fingers left over".
And he was a smart... popular... well liked man.

IMO... "social media" can not or will not change this... yet I look around and everyone is "fingers on a phone" for some odd reason or another.
WHICH kills me...
For the phone was invented to talk... NOT type... it was invented to "do away" with having to type to communicate with each other...
to SOLVE a hindrance... A problem.
It kills me for I am watching... and thinking...
Nothing like taking a step backwards in time... AND... NOT seeing it for what it is and realizing it.

Texting was invented for... and meant for brief solid messages.
Not for entire communications hidden behind a veil of obscurity.. lacking in tone or emphasis of vocal purity.

IMO... We evolved language and speech... only to silence it.
And "social media" has become a "fantasy land" filled with edited and perfectly selected images portraying what we want people to see...
An edited / created "reality" that can change on a whim.

I am curious on others thoughts on this. AND... Am I alone in this thinking.
Post your thoughts... all and any as usual are welcomed. :)

Cell phones when they became smart phones are no longer just phones any more, they are miniature computers. About 90% of useage on my smartphone has nothing to do with phone and instead is used as a computer.....

If I wanted to be that "connected"... or "more connected" with others than I already am...

I would move in with you. :P

Computers with A small screen...
High cost of operation...
susceptibility to breakage...
loss...
and constant updating due to a purposely fast paced out dating.

And the screen being my biggest issue.
