ANTIVIRUS
That time of year again.
My Norton AntiVirus runs out in about 2 weeks;
get a message every day.
Anyone running with free virus protection or
programs?
Any recommendations?

Re: ANTIVIRUS
I use Avast! It's free, uses minimal resources, and is the best anti-virus available, reported not only by myself but other users everywhere They sell corporate versions, so the home version they give away for free. I wish all companies operated like this.

I used AVG for a few years.
Switched when Adelphia sent me an Email
offering the FREEDOM.
I agree AVG was Good Also.
Freedom has more Options Though.
Anti-Virus
Firewall
Parental Control
Anti-Spyware
Pop up Blocker
and
Privacy Manager.
They all run Continuosly.
Plus
the anti Virus & Anti-Spyware
can be set up to do a full Scan Daily.
Not sure if It's a Free service to all though.
You would need to check that.

Re: ANTIVIRUS
I use free AVG. They said a while back that I would have to start paying with a message everyday, but I didnt pay, and still have free protection.
I uninstalled my Norton antivirus but was able to keep the Norton System Doctor part.
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

I concur with AVG. I've used it for about 5 yrs. Good program and updates almost daily.

Re: ANTIVIRUS
Sherm, if you use SBC DSL, they offer free antivirus, popup blockers, firewall, etc. as part of the monthly payment. I believe the antivirus is by CA.
http://home2.ca.com/DRHM/servlet/Con...m&Locale=en_US
Step 1 (for Windows users)
The SBC Yahoo! Online Protection software provides you up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware protection. If it is not installed on this computer, install it now-it's free to SBC Yahoo! DSL Subscribers.
Get It Now.
Step 2
Use firewall software. The following are popular third-party firewall products:
ZoneAlarmTM by ZoneLabs®
NortonTM Personal Firewall by SymantecTM
Personal Firewall Plus by McAfee®
eTrustTM EZ Firewall 2005 by Computer Associates
(You can price compare firewall software at Yahoo! Shopping.)
Step 3
Get the latest security updates for your software:
Check for security updates for Microsoft Office and Windows software at Microsoft.
Get latest versions of your Yahoo! software:
Yahoo! Messenger
Yahoo! Toolbar
Macintosh users:
The SBC Yahoo! Online Protection software suite is not currently available for Macintosh computers. FirewallGuide.com provides a complete list of Macintosh security products. Again, at a minimum, you should get software which provides anti-spyware, anti-virus, and firewall protection as well as get the latest OS upgrades from Apple. Also make sure you have the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger.

bigcy, you probably still have free protection but probably can't download any new updates.

Re: ANTIVIRUS
I use Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic
http://www.free-av.com/
I used to have AVG free on this computer, but since the free license is for only one PC, (I don't cheat) I installed Antivir on another. One day I received an email with an attachment that had a file extension that I recognized as a virus. If you don't show all file extensions, viruses will try to hide with extensions like virus.jpg.vxd. This will appear as virus.jpg and will not look like it's executable. Anyway, it got past a freshly updated AVG. Now I know that no antivrus can block 100%, but decided to compare. I copied the attachment to a floppy, and scanned with AVG. No detection. Put the floppy in the other PC and scanned with AntiVir. Virus detected.
I uninstalled AVG on this PC and installed AntiVir.

Re: ANTIVIRUS
Hey Sherm,
The AVG Free is what I use on everything,
Have for a couple years now.
It is a very easy system to employ and is remotely maintained Just like Norton.
Only it doesn't cost'
The AVG professional is a lot more versatile but costs.
Google it and click on the free download. you will be
good to go.
