Tom the last sentence in that story is REAL comforting...that there is a move to ban the import of those things into our country, in another words, right now it is legal to import them here....oh lovely...no wonder I don't swim anymore...

Actually looks like several bullet holes and the top of it's head smashed in. I know there is NO WAY that thing would get in a boat with me, until I was ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN it was dead!

I just hope if it gets me, it does it fast.
Why do I ever get in the water. I wonder how hard it would be to detect with a prosthetic leg?

Re: You Never Know What's Swimming Around With You In The Lake!
as kids we use to go giggin for gar and my son spent a good amount of his summer doing just that. I have seen some big gar or so I thought but that one in the last pic is some kind of mutant. I am sure that image will stick in my brain next time I go to the lake and here I was careful because of gators.
I never heard of a gar bitting a human but the way they bite is the close their mouth and kind of shred the fish. Ouch!

Biggest gar I have ever seen was in Lake Pontchatrain, when I was growing up in New Orleans. It was almost seven feet long and dead. It had washed up on the boat ramp. Looked like a boat ran over it and killed it.

Biggest Gar I've seen are the ones that swim below the Tim's Ford Dam in TN. I saw one that had to be every bit of ten feet long. There are a couple others that run about 6'. The pool below the dam goes about 40 feet deep or so.
Relic hunting consists of a series of misadventures interspersed by occasional moments of glory.

Tom....I don;t know why either...not comforting at all that it is legal to do so...I would hope no one in their right mind would bring them here...but unfortunately this world is full of people not in their right mind....
