A nickel,dime and quarter could get you connected. None in the photo had power. I seen a few in older Casinos that still work. These were kiddy-corner to a gastation, rundown part of Arizona,other side of Colorado River,from Laughlin NV. Times have"nt changed much in this area. Place just waiting for new money and bulldozers to arrive,if ever.

I used a lot of those on the road back in the day. I'd remember in my head a long digit call card number to make the calls. I bet the bums and panhandlers miss em the most as a pay phone was a great place for them to setup shop waiting for someone to come by to make a call. I can't recall how often I was asked " excuse me sir, I was wondering if you maybe you could help me out"

The ones around here, like out side of walmart, have disappeared.
Not sure about the ones downtown...i just don't get out of the car there....anymore.

Arn't these phones a little close to each other? Imagine that you were on phone #1 and had to talk to your doctor about a vasectomy. The town gossip was on phone #2. And the cheating Banker was on #3.

Their close, I don"t know why,maybe it has to do with the wireing setup. The business on the other side of the wall is closed. These were the last of the 25 cent smart wall phones. If I had a key I would check the coin boxes. Looks like at least 1 of the coin return flippers has been hammered with the handset. Their may be persons still trying to use them and loosing their hard earned money. The owner most likely calculated they were not worth the cost of removeal, wrote them off on his/her taxes.

i kinda miss those days....the pace was more humane. Why does everyone expect everyone to be contactable 24hrs a day? What happened to the old days? My wife would pick up the *land line* then simply say 'chub is out detecting for the day'. Then when I get home my wife would say that someone called while I was out. Then it was my choice of when to return the call. Aaaaaah memories. Much more affordable also. Phone calls outside the house would cost me $1 per year...
