That is a possible, though unlikely size for a python or other constrictor. I also think it is likely bigger in the fear and retelling.

Sounds like a python to me,
Standing with its head at a height of 10 feet,, yep I would looked definitely try to get back to the safety of town real quick.

I have seen a water mocassion during the 93 floods well over 20 ft in Missouri , and a few yrs ago in the ozarks a copper head close 16 ft , .
